Mann, Gupta qualify for Mercedes Trophy National Finals

City golfers Rishab Mann Handicap Category A (0-17) and Sushil Gupta - Handicap Category B (18-24) qualified for the National Finals of MercedesTrophy 2018 on day 1 of the Noida leg qualifier held here today. Rishab and Sushil clinched the first two qualification spots available from the leg by carding a nett. score of 71.8 and 72.6 respectively. The MercedesTrophy 2018 has so far seen 39 qualifiers including today who will be competing in the National Finals to be played at the Oxford Golf Resort in Pune from 4-6 April 2018. Speaking on his win CAT A winner Rishab Mann said, "It is a lovely feeling to become a winner today. It is a lovely tournament hosted by Mercedes." Commenting on the qualification CAT B winner Sushil Gupta said, "It is my first national finals and I am delighted. I do play at the Jaypee Greens regularly but today I was competing at the course after a considerable gap. So really happy with the way the course played today despite the heavy breeze." Delhi Dynamos announce squad for I-League second division

Delhi Dynamos have announced their squad for the I-League second division. The I-League second division is set to kick off on March 16, and Delhi Dynamos FC are one of the seven Indian Super League sides taking part in the competition, which will be played in two phases. Dynamos have been grouped alongside Real Kashmir, Lonestar Kashmir, Hindustan FC, Delhi United and FC Pune City (reserves) in Group A. There will be a total of three groups, with 18 teams in the preliminary phases and the winners from each group will move forward to the final phase while best second placed teams will also find a spot. Delhi Dynamos reserves will be working under the tutelage of head coach Francisco Perez Lazaro, while Rajat Guha and Sandeep Alhan will be the two assistant coaches for the side. Pope praises Pyeongchang Olympics as bridge to peace

Pope Francis has praised the Pyeongchang Olympics for showing that sport can "build bridges between countries in conflict and give a valid contribution to peace." Yuki Ramkumar to clash for place in Indian Wells main draw

India's top singles players Yuki Bhambri and Ramkumar Ramanathan will clash for a place in the main draw of the Indian Wells Masters after winning their respective first round matches in the qualifiers here. Javelin coach Hohn not happy with AFI, SAI

Just four months into the job, India's javelin throw coach Uwe Hohn said he is fast losing his patience, thanks to dilly-dallying by the authorities on his demands for performance based bonus and other perks. The 55-year-old Hohn, the only javelin thrower in history to have crossed the 100m mark, took charge as coach at the national camp here in November last year but four months into his job he is feeling "annoyed" that the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) and Sports Authority Of India (SAI) have not fulfilled their promises. The joint Canada-Mexico-US bid for the 2026 World Cup announced a reshuffle of its leadership, emphasising diversity as they seek to woo voters at a key FIFA vote in just over three months' time. Archery academy flourishes in Naxal-hit Bijapur

A sports academy has been set up in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district to nurture talent among young children.Twenty children are being trained in archery at the academy, and in less than a year, students have won three medals at the state-level championship and have also made it to the national level.Coach Durgesh Pratap Rai told ANI, "It's been nine months that the academy has started. Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir will captain the Delhi Daredevils squad during the 11th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL)."I am more excited than I have ever been," Gambhir said on his return to the IPL franchise based in his home city of Delhi.Gambhir had earlier led the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for seven years in the IPL. The seasoned Gautam Gambhir was today named captain of Delhi Daredevils for the upcoming edition of Indian Premier League (IPL), which will mark his return to the franchise after a gap of eight years. "It is a huge honour to once again captain DD. To get this responsibility is a way for me to give back to the sport in the city.
