India lose to Australia, exit Sultan Azlan Shah Cup

Australia put India out of contention for a place in the final as they beat the Sardar Singh-led squad 4-2 in their third league match here at the 27th Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 2018 on Tuesday.Late goals from Ramandeep Singh (52', 53') were mere consolations as strikes from Captain Mark Knowles (28'), Aran Zalewski (35'), Daniel Beale (38') and Blake Govers (40') ensured that table-toppers Australia remained unbeaten. It was a do-or-die match for India and their intent was evident right from the start as they attacked the Australian circle constantly. With better ball possession in the first quarter, India created three potential chances to score but they did not materialise.Australia were let off the hooks when a pass from Ramandeep Singh to Shilanand Lakra could not make its way past Australian goalkeeper Andrew Charter in the 8th minute, with the rebound blasted wide of the goal by Sumit Kumar. The Indian defence remained resolute in the first quarter as they kept the World Champions ...

Perera's quickfire 66 helps Sri Lanka defeat India in Nidahas Trophy opener

Shikhar Dhawan's valiant knock of 90 went in vain in the opening clash of the 2018 Nidahas Trophy, as the Lankans chased down the 175 target set by the visitors, with five wickets and nine balls to spare. After a wobbly start saw India lose stand-in captain Rohit Sharma and Suresh Raina early in the innings, Shikhar Dhawan produced his best innings so far in the format, scoring 90 runs in 49 balls which included six fours and six sixes and his 95-run partnership with Manish Pandey ensured India put up a competitive total.Although, it turned out to be well below the mark as Sri Lanka chased down the target without facing too many problems as Kusal Perera turned on the heat with a well made 66 from 37 deliveries."On this track, I felt that 170 was a good score. It's just that Kusal Perera played an amazing knock and he just took the game away from us very quickly," Dhawan said in the post-match press conference. The Lankans came out all guns blazing at the start of their innings, as the ..

Perera's pyrotechnics power SL to five-wicket win

The inexperienced Indian bowling attack was left stunned by Kusal Perera's brutal onslaught as Sri Lanka romped to a five-wicket win in the Nidahas T20 Trophy opener here. In the absence of senior bowlers, the Indian attack looked pedestrian as Sri Lanka chased down a stiff 175-run target with nine balls to spare. Kusal ended with a match-winning 66 off 37 balls. India had shrugged off a poor start to post a competitive 174 for four, thanks to Shikhar Dhawan's delightful 90 off 49 balls. It was an opportunity for a young Indian bowling line-up to make an impact but it was rattled by Perera's power-packed performance. Whether it was taking the attack to the pacers or charging down the spinners, Perera was up to the task. His breathtaking knock comprised four sixes and six boundaries. He slogged sweep Washington Sundar for his first six, setting the tone for the innings before punishing an erring Shardul Thakur in his first over which went for as much as 27 runs. Perera ended up hitting

Hohn feels Neeraj needs a few changes in technique

Star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra was satisfied with his season's best performance at the Federation Cup Athletics Championships today and his new coach Uwe Hohn feels that he can even do better with some tweaking in his technique. I am hoping I can cross it and let us see," Neeraj said after winning gold in his event at the NIS Patiala here. The 20-year-old Neeraj, the favourite and the star attraction of the championships, sent the iron spear to a distance of 85.94m in his final attempt to send the seizable crowd at the NIS Patiala to raptures. His performance today was his best after his 86.48m throw -- the current world junior record -- which he came up in Poland in 2016 while winning gold in the Junior World Championships. This was also the best ever throw recorded on Indian soil. His performance is the best of the season among javelin throwers of the ...
