Russia pays $15 million Olympic doping fine: source
Russia has paid the $15 million it was fined in December when it was suspended by the International Olympic Committee for mass doping, a source with knowledge of the issue told AFP today. "The fine has been paid," the source said. The payment of the fine by the Russian Olympic Committee is one of the IOC's key criteria in deciding whether to lift Russia's suspension before the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics closing ceremony on Sunday. The IOC barred Russia from the Olympics on December 5 after allegations that it had organised a huge system of doping at the 2014 Sochi Olympics, where hosts Russia topped the medals table. VFI inks pact with Baseline Ventures to promote volleyball
The Volleyball Federation of India (VFI) today entered into an agreement with sports marketing and branding firm Baseline Ventures, to promoteand build Indian volleyball. The ten-year partnership was signed on the sidelines of the 66th senior volleyball nationals being held here with the Core Economic Committee of VFI in attendance. The first project on the anvil for the partnership is the professional Indian Volleyball League with franchises in majorcities to be held on October this year. World's oldest hockey tournament Beighton Cup, which could not be organized last year, is slated to be held from December 20-30, a Bengal Hockey Association official said. The 122nd edition of the tournament could not be held in 2017 -- first time since 1947 (when it was postponed due to riots) but the Hockey India has finally confirmed the dates for 2018. "Beighton Cup is not dead. We have received a communication from the Hockey India and the dates have been confirmed from December 20-30. We are looking forward to host the tournament in a revamped way at our venue which will be ready by March-April," a senior BHA official told PTI.
