Chennaiyin FC 'B' to compete in Second Division league

: The Chennaiyin FC 'B' team is set to compete in the upcoming Second Division League that is slated to begin on March 16. Chennaiyin FC 'B' will be one of seven ISL clubs fielding reserve teams (except ATK, NorthEast United FC and Mumbai City FC) in the 18 team Second Division League, the second tier of Indian football, a press release here said. Chennaiyin's 'B' team is pitted against the reserve teams of ISL compatriots Bengaluru FC and Jamshedpur FC in the same group. The Second Division League will begin with a preliminary round that involves the 18 teams divided into three groups of six teams each. The preliminary round will begin on March 16 and go on till May 15, with the teams playing on a home and away basis. The three preliminary group winners and the best 2nd placed team qualify for the final round of the Second Division League scheduled for May 21-27 at a central venue wherein they play each other in a single-leg league system to decide the winner that is ...

Saweety, Meena in semifinals of Strandja Memorial Boxing

Former world silver-medallist Saweety Boora (75kg) and Meena Kumar Devi (54kg) assured themselves of medals by entering the semifinals on a second successive day of mixed results for Indian boxers at the 69th Strandja Memorial Tournament here. Meena defeated Italian Giulia Lamagna to make the last-four stage, along with Saweety, who outpunched American Leah Cooper in her quarterfinal bout. CRPF sends Kashmiri footballers on 'Bharat Darshan'

The Central Reserve of Police Force (CRPF) on Tuesday sent two football teams, who recently won in the tournament organised by the CRPF Kashmir sector, on a 'Bharat Darshan'.The CRPF had organised a district-level football tournament, named 'CAP 2017', between November-December 2017 in the three districts of Jammu and Kashmir including Budgam, Ganderbal and Srinagar.A total of 16 teams had participated in the tournament conducted at Budgam district 43, out of which Sahin Sheikhpora football club was declared the winner and Khumani football club was the runner-up.As part of the prize package, the winners of all the three districts will be sent on the 'Bharat darshan', out of which the first two batches of the winners were sent on Tuesday.36 players from both the teams from Budgam district, along with 4 representatives from the CRPF, were sent to the trip.

Pankaj Advani scored a record break to take ONGC into the finals of the 14th PSPB Inter Unit Billiards and Snooker Tournament here today. All round performance by Kashiling Adake helped BPCL score a 23-15 win over CPCL in the 23rd PSPB Inter Unit Kabaddi Tournament today. Eight day 66th senior national volleyball tourney from Feb 21

The eight day 66th senior nationalvolleyball championship for men and women, organised by theVolleyball Federation of India (VFI), was inaugurated here by the Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan through video conferencing. As many as 28 teams in the men's category and 26 in the women's section from across the country, will vie for the honour of the tournament to be played at V K Krishna Menon stadium and Calicut Trades Centre Indoor stadium between February 21 and 28. U-19 cricketer in Pakistan commits suicide

An U-19 cricketer from Karachi who represented his city at the national level committed suicide today morning, apparently due to depression after selection snubs and problems with his coaches. Aamir Hanif, who played five one-day internationals in the early 90s, said his son, Muhammad Zaryab, was found hanging from a ceiling in his room at their home in Malir. "Last night he was with us at dinner and was very depressed. I remember him saying that 'cricketers are useless and of no use'. At that time I didnt understand what he meant," Hanif said. "But this morning I was shocked and so angry over what he did. He had been complaining to me for the last few months that coaches were not giving him fair chances and attention in the Karachi under-19 team," Hanif said. Police said that the family had not registered any case and had neither agreed to a post-mortem. "We are investigating but it appears to be a suicide case," one officer said. Pakistan target former India hockey coach Oltmans

The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) is targetting celebrated Dutch coach Roelant Oltmans to once again take charge of the national team before the Commonwealth Games. A reliable source in the federation told PTI that Oltmans, who has coached the team before in 2003-2004, was in Oman where Pakistan is playing a triangular tournament with Japan and the hosts. "Oltmans is in Oman to have talks with the PHF president and secretary and if he agrees to take up the new assignment, he will be leading the Pakistan team in the Commonwealth Games in April," the source said. "He has apparently asked for a few days to make a final decision as he has been heavily involved with Indian hockey at every level since 2013," the source said.
