Snooker: Dossa, Shah score contrasting wins to enter 3rd round
Home contenders Nishant Dossa and Sidraj Shah, both of the Cricket Club of India (CCI), scored contrasting victories to advance to the third round of theRs 12.25 lakh prize-money CCI All India Open Snooker Championship 2018 here today. In a keenly contested second round match, Dossa was engaged in an absorbing tussle with Cherag Ramakrishnan of Colaba before scraping to a 3-2 victory in five close frames, a media release said. Ramakrishnan started positively by pocketing the opening frame before a resilient Dossa replied by narrowly winning the next two to take a slender 2-1 lead. The fourth frame witnessed another tight contest which Ramakrishnan managed to win by a thin margin to level scores and take the match to the fifth frame. Gangolli leads at National 'A' Chess Championship for Blind
Defending champion Kishan Gangolli is leading with 4.5 points after the fifth round of the National 'A' Chess Championship for the Visually Challenged being held here. The 26-year-old from Karnataka has been winning the championship for the last four years and is aiming for his fifth straight title, a media release said today. Chess coach Ashvin Makawana from Vadodara has jumped to the 2nd place with 4.0 points after defeating Yudhajeet De in the fifth round. Aryan Joshi from Maharashtra moved down to the 5th place after losing to Patra Subhendu Kumar of Odisha. A new World Cup event, featuring eight nations, will be hosted by London this summer.The British Athletics announced the news on its official Twitter handle, saying, "We told you something MASSIVE was coming and here it is!"The inaugural World Cup event is scheduled from July 14 to 15 at the London Stadium, reports the Telegraph.Britain, the United States, Poland, China, Germany, France, Jamaica and South Africa will be part of the event.It will feature one male and one female athlete from each participating nation to compete in the track and field events up to 1500m.According to media reports, the first edition of the World Cup will see only female captains in order to mark 100 years of women's right to vote in Britain.
