After de Villiers and du Plessis, SA suffer de Kock blow

South Africa's injury list continues to grow as wicket-keeper batsman Quinton de Kock has been ruled out of the remaining four ODIs and the ensuing T20Is series against India. De Kock suffered a left wrist injury whilst batting during the second ODI at Centurion on Sunday and needs two to four weeks to make a full recovery. South Africa were already without the services of star player AB de Villiers and Faf du Plessis, who both suffered finger injuries. Cricket South Africa has named no replacement for de Kock in the ODI squad. De Kock had a forgettable Test series with the bat and had scored 34 and 20 in the first two ODIs. India won the first ODI at Durban by six wickets and the second ODI by nine wickets to take a 2-0 lead in the six-match series.

Brrr! Brutal cold raises concerns over Olympics opening

Freezing weather at the Winter Olympics may force some athletes and staff to pull out of Friday's opening ceremony as Pyeongchang shivers in temperatures plunging to minus 20 degrees Celsius. Italy are among the countries fearing the dangerous effects of the big chill and are advising their competitors to ensure they are moving at all times during the traditional curtainraiser. Doctors with the Italian team have ordered coaches and staff with heart problems or diabetes to keep in the warm instead -- the stadium for the opening ceremony is open to the elements with no roof. New Zealand are taking no chances and Peter Wardell, their chef de mission in South Korea, admitted on Monday: "We are a little trepidatious about the opening ceremony, which is going to be at night, and how we are all going to keep warm if it's going to be these sorts of temperatures. "They tell us it's likely to be minus eight, minus 10, which is actually quite warm in comparison (to today). "But ...

He has bulked up to "Indian boxing's golden category" -- the middleweight -- in pursuit of a second successive Commonwealth Games medal and after two podium finishes since the shift, Mandeep Jangra says he is ready to dethrone the more accomplished Vikas Krishan. Mandeep, who claimed a silver medal at the Glasgow 2014 CWG in the welterweight (69kg) category, would be giving it a shot in the 75kg division at the Gold Coast edition come April. But for that, he would have to get past Vikas, an Asian Games gold-medallist, a multiple-time Asian Championships medallist, a world championships bronze-medallist, and an Olympian to boot. "Middleweight and bantamweight (56kg) are the golden categories of Indian boxing. From Viju bhai (Vijender Singh) to Akhil bhai, look at what these guys have achieved. I think I will also achieve a lot in middleweight," the newly-crowned national champion told PTI. His statement is not too off the mark given that Vijender became the country's ...
