Spinners kept the momentum going: Virat Kohli

Skipper Virat Kohli praised his spinners for keeping the pressure on Proteas for the majority of the game, which resulted in India's emphatic nine-wicket victory here on Sunday.Kohli said he was extremely proud of wrist-spinners, Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav, and credited the discipline shown by them as the main reason for the win."Chahal and Kuldeep are a handy bunch together. If we set up to chase down totals, we know exactly what we want to do. We know their middle-order is inexperienced, and we look to cash in on that. The way our spinners are bowling, they understood their weakness and bowled their hearts out," he said in the post-match news conference.Kohli also asserted that he wanted to keep on maintaining the same momentum for the remainder of the series."2-0 is a wonderful position to be in. We are confident about continuing the same momentum," the 29-year-old skipper said.Earlier, the wrist-spinner duo of Chahal and Yadav ripped through South African batting line-up ..

Taking time to get used to change-ups from Yadav, Chahal: Dale

South African batting coach Dale Benkenstein today conceded that their batsmen have been unable to read Indian wrist spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav during the ongoing ODI series as it is taking time to get adjusted to their change-ups. India took a 2-0 lead in the series with their comprehensive win on Sunday, as Chahal took a career-best 5 for 22 and bowled out South Africa for the lowest total on home soil. "The tough thing is you are playing against two wrist spinners, and not a lot of players have played against. It does take time to get used to their change-ups and their variations," Benkenstein sounded helpless. "Their spinners are very good, obviously. Earlier, Anil Kumble was the one who could really spin the ball away from the bat. He bowled pretty quick and the ball would come on to the bat. But these guys (Chahal and Yadav) are a lot slower. "We've had a good look at them in the two games (so far) and I'm sure our performances will improve as the .

The defeat was a learning experience for me, says

South Africa's stand-in skipper Aiden Markram today conceded that the nine-wicket loss to India in his maiden game in charge was a learning experience for him. He, however, said the defeat could just lead to a turnaround for the hosts in the ongoing six-match series. Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav's magical wrist spin today outfoxed a depleted South Africa as India romped to a crushing nine-wicket win in the second ODI to reclaim the pole position in the ICC rankings. India now lead the series 2-0 as they literally annihilated the home team which had the ignominy of being shot out for a paltry 118 in 32.3 overs -- their lowest-ever score at home. "It was eye opening definitely. But it might just bring out the best in our squad and might bring some fight into the game. So I'm looking forward to seeing how the guys react, Markram said at the post-match press conference. "Obviously the guys are very upset and disappointed. But the beauty of it is that everyone's ...

Chinnaswamy effect: I go for wickets not economy, says Chahal

Yuzvendra Chahal developed a knack of trading wickets for runs while playing IPL games on a bowler's graveyard like Chinnaswamy Stadium, which is now proving to be handy during India's ongoing ODI series against South Africa. Chahal has picked seven wickets in the first two ODIs including his maiden five-for in the second game. The Haryana bowler asserted that the skipper and team management back him to go for wickets in the middle overs, and he doesn't mind being hit for a few runs. "I go for wickets and I flight the ball. I know it can go for six too, but when your captain and your team management back you, it gives you the confidence to do it. I have played in Bangalore for RCB on flatter wickets than this, so you have to play to your strengths here," said Chahal after his man- of-the-match display on Sunday. "If you worry about the batsmen or their stature, then you cannot play to your strengths. This is a routine for me. In IPL too, I have gone for 40 runs in 4 ...

Dudu's latre strike revives East Bengal's fortune

An injury minute strike by Dudu Omagbemi helped East Bengal revive their title bid with a narrow 1-0 win over Indian Arrows in a Hero I-League football match, here today. Winless from four matches, East Bengal had virtually given up on their title hope, squandering at least half a dozen chances but the veteran Nigerian's 90+3rd minute header gave them a fresh lease of life in a nail-biting finish. With five matches remaining, East Bengal (23 points) jumped past arch-rivals Mohun Bagan (20) to reclaim the third spot, four points shy of leaders Neroca FC (27). It was heartbreak for Indian youngsters as they put up a stellar defence, only to fall short in the dying minutes as East Bengal managed to keep pace in the title race with the injury time winner. Bizarre defence! Pak U-19 loss to India result of 'magic art'

Pakistan under-19 team manager Nadeem Khan today said his side's crushing loss to eventual champions India in the World Cup semifinals could be a result of magic art. Nadeem, a former Test player, told the media on returning from New Zealand that the way the players performed against India, it seemed as someone had cast a magic spell on them. "We were confident that it would be a close match but as the match progressed and our batting went down for 59 it made one wonder if there was a magic spell on the team," Nadeem said. "It appeared as if our batsmen had no idea what was happening out on the field or how to tackle the situation and pressure." India, after outclassing Pakistan, went on to beat Australia in the final and win the U-19 World Cup for a record fourth time. Nadeem, who toured India in 1999 with the Pakistan Test squad, appreciated the gesture of the Indian team coach Rahul Dravid to later visit the opposition dressing room and boost the morale of the ...

'Extremely worried' Olympics body threatens to expel boxing

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) threatened to axe boxing from the Tokyo 2020 Games on Sunday as it opened an investigation into the sport's controversial governing body and said concerns lingered over possible match-fixing at Rio 2016. The IOC's executive board also froze contacts with and financial payments to the International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA), whose interim president has been named as a leading criminal by the US Treasury Department. The board said it was "not satisfied" with a report by AIBA about its governance, refereeing and anti-doping issues, and demanded a further report by April 30. "The IOC reserves the right to review the inclusion of boxing on the programme of the Youth Olympic Games Buenos Aires 2018 and the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020," a statement said. AIBA responded later on Sunday with a statement that insisted it had fulfilled "the IOC's request to submit a Progress Report". "This decision is extremely disappointing for AIBA .
