Anderson out of final Sri Lanka Test

England fast bowler James Anderson said Wednesday he has been left out of the final Test against Sri Lanka to give match practice to fellow paceman Stuart Broad. "Yes I'm not playing this game, Broady's going," Anderson said ahead of the dead-rubber final Test of the three-match series when the visitors will be gunning for a 3-0 whitewash. "The thinking is that with the series sewn up it's an opportunity to rotate. "Going to the West Indies as well (in January) and with a view to that I think the feeling is they want Broady to get some Test cricket under his belt," said Anderson, 36. "So it's going to be a week off. It's been a frustrating trip for me really because you want to contribute to the wins. But I feel like I've tried my best but it's not really been a series for the seamers," he added. Anderson has taken just one wicket over two Tests that have seen the spinners dominate. England sewed up the series -- a first away series win since beating South Africa in 2015-16 -- on ...

Artistic gymnastics World Cup: Dipa eyes Olympic berth with good show

Indian gymnast Dipa Karmakar would be aiming to put behind the injury-marred disaster that was the Asian Games when she aims for a positive start to her Olympic qualification bid with the World Cup of artistic gymnastics in Cottbus, Germany from Thursday. The four-day showpiece is part of an eight-event qualifying system under which the gymnasts will make the cut based on the aggregate of their top three scores. The four-member Indian team, which also comprises B Aruna Reddy, Ashish Kumar and Rakesh Patra, will look to make it count with good performances. Dipa, who finished fourth at the Rio Olympics, will be India's best bet in the tournament after clinching the gold at the Artistic Gymnastics World Challenge Cup at Mersin, Turkey in July this year. The 25-year-old from Arunachal Pradesh endured a poor comeback from injury in the Jakarta Asian Games where she had to pull out midway after her knee problem flared up again. Aruna, on the other hand, won a bronze medal in one of the ...

Penalty corners remain our strength: Argentina's Peillat

The Olympic Champions' tag wouldn't matter and Argentina will have to produce their best at the upcoming men's hockey World Cup, believes dragflick sensation Gonzalo Peillat, who said converting penalty corners will remain the team's strength. "I don't think being World No.2 or the Olympic Champions would matter here in this tournament as every other team would have come with the intention to win. We have to focus on every game and play our best hockey," Peillat said after arriving here on Wednesday. "Everybody knows penalty corners will be our strong point and it's important to give our 100 per cent in all aspects," he added. World No 2 Argentina on Wednesday received a warm welcome as they arrived here at the Biju Patnaik International Airport for the World Cup beginning on November 28. Voges 'not surprised' by CA's decision to upheld ban

Veteran Australian batsman Adam Voges has stated that he is "not surprised" by Cricket Australia's (CA) decision to uphold the ban of former skipper Steve Smith, opener David Warner, and pacer Cameron Bancroft. The trio was suspended by the CA for their alleged rule in a massive ball-tampering scandal during a Test series against South Africa in March. The Western Australia coach further hoped that his team player Bancroft had not pinned too much hope on having his ban reduced."No, I'm not surprised that they didn't get their way. Cricket Australia made this call and they stuck to it, which they always said they would, the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Voges, as saying."I just hope Cam hasn't built up too much hope about it. I'm sure he's probably disappointed, but we'll continue to stick to the plan. He's got six weeks to go. I know there's been a lot of speculation the last few weeks about possible reductions. That hasn't happened. He'll continue to play for Willetton, and get ready ..

Ponting, Clarke fit to replace Australian batting coach: Shane Warne

Australian spin legend Shane Warne has suggested the name of former skippers Ricky Ponting and Michael Clarke among others to replace Graeme Hick as the batting coach of the side.Calling for change, Warne said that the players are committing same mistakes all the time under Hick. Mark Waugh, Ricky Ponting, Michael Clarke and Mike Hussey are fit contenders for the role of batting coach, he has said."The one thing I would say is...Australian cricket over the last 25-30 years has had some terrific batsmen. Graeme Hick has been there for the last few years and seen that the players are making the same mistakes all the time; it's time for a change," the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Warne, as saying."Whether it be Mark Waugh, Ricky Ponting, Michael Clarke and Mike Hussey ... I'm sure any of those guys could do it. We've had great cricketers for the past 25 years and they [should] be around the cricket team more often.
