Ashwini Ponnappa bats for more women doubles events

Commonwealth Games medallist Ashwini Ponnappa on Wednesday lamented that women's doubles is not getting its due in India and stressed on the need to have more events in the category to encourage players. "Where is the importance given towards women's doubles, there is no importance. What's the motivation given to them? I think Premier Badminton League (PBL) is a great format, but it is sad that they don't have women's doubles," Ashwini told reporters here. "We need a lot of women's doubles events. 4 young footballers from Bengal to visit Germany

Four young footballers from West Bengal will visit Germany early next month to participate in a session with main players of Eintracht Frankfurt, a famous club. Umpiring issues could lead to rescheduling of Cooch Behar Trophy

The BCCI may be forced to reschedule the Cooch Behar Trophy since it is clashing with the Ranji Trophy and there are not enough match officials -- umpires and match referees -- to manage the two tournaments simultaneously. The inclusion of nine new states into the competition has thrown Indian cricket's domestic calender into complete haywire. The BCCI, in all likelihood, will have to delay the matches of National U-19 competition by two-three days. The Cooch Behar Trophy as per BCCI website was scheduled to start on November 19 but multiple matches of Ranji Trophy will also be played on the same dates. ICC suspends Sri Lanka bowling coach Zoysa on fixing charges

Sri Lanka's bowling coach Nuwan Zoysa was Wednesday suspended by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and charged with match-fixing, compounding the crisis that has gripped the game in the island nation. Just days before the Lankans take the field against England in a Test series, Zoysa has been charged with articles which relate to match-fixing and encouraging players to influence results. "Mr Zoysa has been provisionally suspended with immediate effect. Mr Zoysa has 14 days from 1 November 2018 to respond to the charges. The ICC will not make any further comment in respect of these charges at this stage," said an ICC release without getting into the specifics of what Zoysa could have done to invite the charge.
