Tamil Nadu inks pact with US-based Trilliant for Rs 2000 cr investment

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Thursday said the state government has signed a MoU with US-based Trilliant for establishing its manufacturing unit and a global support centre in the state at an investment of Rs 2,000 crore. The pact was signed in the US city of Chicago. The CM is on an official trip to the US to garner investments to the state and has already clinched a number of deals. "Exciting developments in Chicago! Secured a Rs 2000 crore MoU with Trilliant to establish a manufacturing unit as well as their Development & Global Support Centre in Tamil Nadu. Thanks to Trilliant for this valuable partnership," he said in a post on 'X.' According to an official release, Trilliant is a leading solutions provider relating to Advanced Metering Infrastructure, Smart Grid, Smart Cities and Industrial Internet of Things. Over century-old intelligent power management company Eaton would establish its research and development centre in Tamil Nadu, reinforcing the company's commitment to strengthen its footprint in the country. The new facility to be spread across 1 lakh sq ft would come up in neighbouring Sholinganallur, Chengalpet district and expected to be completed by 2026 end. HC dismisses Balaji's plea against lower court's refusal for PMLA discharge

The Madras High Court on Wednesday dismissed as withdrawn, a petition filed by former Tamil Nadu Minister V Senthil Balaji, challenging an order of a sessions court that refused to discharge him from a money laundering case. A division bench comprising Justices S M Subramaniam and V Sivagnanam dismissed as withdrawn, the petition filed by the DMK leader, after an endorsement was made by his counsel to withdraw it. In its brief order, the bench said the criminal revision petition has been instituted challenging the order of rejection of discharge petition. It was brought to the notice of this court that the charges were framed on August 8, 2024 and a Prosecution Witness was examined on August 16 and that the cross-examination was in progress. Balaji's counsel submitted that since the trial had commenced, the petitioner was not inclined to pursue this petition. An endorsement was made to withdraw it. The Tamil Nadu government has inked pacts with leading companies including Nokia, PayPal, Yield Engineering Systems, Microchip, Infinx, and Applied Materials for an investment commitment of Rs 900 crore and employment of 4,100 people in Chennai, Coimbatore and Madurai, the government said on Friday. Six companies signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) in the presence of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin and officials during the investors' meeting in San Francisco, an official release here said. The chief minister, who is leading a high-level official delegation, is currently on a tour to the US till September 14 to attract investments into Tamil Nadu, as part of an ambitious goal to transform the state into a USD one trillion economy by 2030. StartupTN got funding of Rs 80 cr, formed partnerships with 200 VCs: CEO

The Tamil Nadu government-backed StartupTN has secured funding of Rs 80 crore and has formed partnerships with over 200 venture capital firms, a top official said on Friday. The agency was actively working to bring in more venture capitalists to invest in the state through the fund aggregator platform TANFUND (The Startup Funding Platform), StartupTN Managing Director and CEO Sivarajah Ramanathan said here. StartupTN aims to nurture a vibrant startup ecosystem in the state to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship-driven employment and economic growth. "Our goal is to create a vibrant startup ecosystem that drives innovation and growth. Zomato gets GST tax demand notices over Rs 4.59 cr from TN, WB authorities

Online food delivery platform Zomato has received GST tax demand orders of over Rs 4.59 crore, including applicable interest and penalty, from Tamil Nadu and West Bengal authorities. The company said it plans to appeal against the demand orders passed by the Assistant Commissioner of GST and Central Excise, Nungambakkam Division, Tamil Nadu and Assistant Commissioner of Revenue, Government of West Bengal. The Tamil Nadu tax authority passed an Adjudication Order under Section 73 of the Central Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017, and Tamil Nadu Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017, for GST of Rs 81,16,518, with applicable interest (not quantified) and penalty of Rs 8,21,290. First reusable hybrid rocket RHUMI launched by Tamil Nadu space startup

Tamil Nadu-based startup Space Zone India on Saturday launched its first reusable hybrid rocket, Mission RHUMI-2024, onboard a mobile platform to take up research on global warming and climate change. City-headquartered Space Zone India has been conducting various projects under Mission RHUMI over the last two years. The RHUMI rocket launched early in the day at Thiruvidanthai on the scenic East Coast Road near Chennai is powered by a generic-fuel-based hybrid motor and electrically triggered parachute deployer. "It is 3.5 metre tall rocket and was launched at about 7.25 am from the earlier 7am lift off schedule," Space Zone India Founder-CEO Anand Megalingam said. "It is more of a sounding rocket. Rockwool to set up biggest India factory in Tamil Nadu; to invest Rs 550 cr

Denmark-based Rockwool, one of the leading insulation producers across various segments, will be setting up its largest factory in the country in Tamil Nadu with an outlay of Rs 550 crore, a top official said on Thursday. Rockwool reported revenues of Euro 3.6 billion and has a presence in 40 countries worldwide. The new factory expected to come up at Cheyyar, located about 90 km from Chennai in Tiruvannamalai district, is in addition to the company's existing factory in Dahej, Gujarat and would boost revenues from the Indian market in the Group's global turnover.
