Proportion of new deal wins into revenues intact, says TCS official

The proportion of new deal wins into revenues is "intact", a senior official at largest IT services company TCS has said, attributing the sluggish revenue growth to the adverse impact on discretionary demand because of economic headwinds. Stating that discretionary demand can contribute as much as 30 per cent of incremental revenues in a quarter, the company's chief operating officer N Ganapathy Subramniam told PTI that the September quarter results were impacted due to this aspect. Clients are choosing to conserve cash given the economic climate and choosing to defer spends where they do not see immediate returns on investments, which has impacted the discretionary demand, he said. He, however, said that the proportion of revenue it bags from new deals has not been affected. The company has reported signings of over USD 10 billion for three consecutive quarters. Recruitment scam: IT company TCS fires 16 employees, bars 6 vendors

India's largest IT services company TCS on Sunday said it has fired 16 employees and barred six vendors in connection with a recruitment scam. Our investigation found 19 employees to be involved16 employees have been separated from the company for code of conduct violations, and three employees have been removed from the resource management function, the company said in a late evening statement. It also added that six vendors, their owners and affiliates have been debarred from doing any business with TCS. In late June, reports had surfaced of a recruitment scam at the largest software exporter, wherein vendors tasked with some functions were alleged to have indulged in malpractices in collusion with TCS staffers. The allegation came to light within weeks of K Krithivasan taking charge as the company's chief executive and was the first major challenge faced by him. TCS bags contract to redesign, build new version of govt's GeM portal

IT major Tata Consultancy Services on Tuesday said it has bagged a contract from the government to redesign and build a new version of public procurement platform Government e-Marketplace (GeM). The GeM platform provides an end-to-end online marketplace for the central and state government bodies, including public sector undertakings, for procurement of common-use goods and services in a transparent and efficient manner. GeM CEO P K Singh said in its next avatar, GeM is envisioned to be an all-inclusive platform for government procurement, offering improved ease of doing business and transparency. "With TCS as our system integration partner, we are assured of architecting the new GeM with unmatched experience, rigour, and passion to develop a world-class solution," Singh said. The Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) of GeM is over Rs 2 lakh crore purchased by 70,000 buyer organisations from more than 65 lakh sellers and service providers, including over 8 lakh medium and small enterprise

TCS bags deal from BBC for finance, procurement, payroll management

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) on Thursday said it has bagged a deal from British Broadcasting Cooperation (BBC) to change their finance, procurement and HR applications management. The company will leverage AI-driven human-machine collaboration suite, TCS Cognix in the multi-year partnership, the company said in a BSE filing. "TCS will also provide application management and change delivery services for the broadcaster's application estate supporting the finance, procurement and HR functions," the statement read. Amit Kapur, Country Head, UK and Ireland at TCS, said that the partnership will "strengthen TCS' position as a leader in delivering transformative business services to the media and entertainment industry". The Indian IT services giant has been operating in the UK for 45 years and tops software and IT services supply in the region in revenue terms. It employs 21,000 people in the UK and Ireland, making it among the region's biggest IT employers.

Mcap of top valued firms erodes by Rs 70,487 cr; RIL, TCS biggest laggards

Six of the 10 most valued firms faced a combined erosion of Rs 70,486.95 crore in their market valuation last week, with Reliance Industries and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) taking the biggest hit following a weak trend in equities. While Reliance Industries, TCS, HDFC Bank, ITC, State Bank of India and HDFC were the laggards from the top 10 pack, ICICI Bank, Hindustan Unilever, Infosys and Bharti Airtel were the gainers.
