Over 70 students in T'gana hospitalised following suspected food poisoning

As many as 78 students of a residential girls school in Nizamabad district in the state took ill after having their meals and were hospitalised, an official said on Tuesday. Several students of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) in Bheemgal town of the district complained of vomiting and stomach pain after having dinner on Monday, due to suspected food poisoning. A total of 78 students have been admitted to hospitals in Bheemgal and Nizamabad, the official said, adding it to be a case of mild food poisoning. All are now stable and undergoing treatment, the official added.

Owing to rains, Telangana govt declares holiday for educational institutes

Following forecast for heavy rain, the Hyderabad District Collector has issued orders declaring a holiday to all educational institutions on Monday, even as the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) staff are engaged in clearing waterlogging in low-lying areas. The city has been witnessing heavy rains since the early hours. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for the city. An orange alert means very heavy rains between 11 cm to 20 cm in a 24-hour duration. "In light of the heavy rainfall forecast in Hyderabad, the government has declared today a holiday for all educational institutions in Hyderabad. Cong chief convenes meeting of newly constituted CWC on Sep 16 in Hyderabad

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has convened a meeting of the newly constituted CWC on September 16 in Hyderabad, AICC general secretary K C Venugopal announced on Monday. Addressing a press conference at the All India Congress Committee headquarters here, Venugopal said on September 17, an extended Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting will be held and it will include all Pradesh Congress Committee chiefs. Obesity on rise among rural families in Telangana: ICRISAT research

Many rural families in Telangana now eat more carbohydrates as they are more affordable than sourcing limited protein and micronutrient rich options, a recent study by the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) has said. The international body, quoting the Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) baseline report 2021 by NITI Aayog, said the study was taken up in Telangana as the state has one in seven individuals multidimensionally poor which is less than the national average of one in four. "A new study from the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) is reshaping our understanding of India's rural health crisis by shedding light on the unexpected causes driving the rise of rural obesity and malnutrition," ICRISAT said. Telangana's total electorate stands over 3.06 crore as per the draft roll after the second Special Summary Revision (SSR) was released, a senior official said on Monday. Telangana Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Vikas Raj said the draft roll for the second Special Summary Revision was published in all 119 Assembly Constituencies on August 21. As per the draft roll, the total number of voters in Telangana stood at 3,06,42,333 comprising 1,53,73,066 male voters, 1,52,51,797 female voters and 2,133 voters belonging to the third gender, an official release said. The state has 119 Assembly constituencies and there are 35,356 polling stations. The total number of general electors in the state is 3,06,26,996, the CEO said. There are 2,742 NRI voters and 15,337 service electors in the electoral roll. The number of young electors in the age group of 18-19 stood at 4,76,597, Raj said.
