Telangana targets $250 bn life sciences ecosystem by 2030: Minister KTR

Aiming to position Hyderabad as the "Health-Tech Mecca" of the world, Telangana Minister for IT and Industries K T Rama Rao on Friday said the government targets to triple the life sciences sector ecosystem in the state to USD 250 billion by 2030 from the existing USD 80 billion. Speaking at the 20th Edition of BioAsia 2023, a three-day life sciences conclave which began here today, KTR said the state is home to over 1,000 life sciences companies globally, including the top 10 pharma firms, in their innovation journey. He said the ecosystem value has already touched USD 80 billion in 2022 which represents a phenomenal ecosystem value growth in Telangana at a mind-boggling 23 per cent over the last two years compared to the national average of about 14 per cent. WHO to set up mRNA vaccine hub in Hyderabad: IT Minister KT Rama Rao

The World Health Organisation will be setting up mRNA (messenger ribonucleic acid) vaccine hub in Telangana, Minister for IT and Industries KT Rama Rao said on Tuesday here. mRNA is becoming a promising technology to address a growing number of infectious diseases. Speaking to reporters on various steps being taken by the state government to promote the life sciences sector, Rama Rao said Telangana has a target of making the industry worth USD 100 billion from USD 50 billion in 2021 and the workforce from the existing four lakh to eight lakh in the next five years. "In fact, this will be another big announcement. WHO is going to set up its mRNA vaccine hub in Hyderabad," he said refusing to provide details. More than USD 3 billion worth of investments and trade took place during the past 19 editions of BioAsia, a flagship annual life sciences convention, and the 20th edition is set to be held from February 24 to 26, Telangana Industries Minister K T Rama Rao said here on Tuesday. Speaking to reporters on various steps being taken by the state government to promote the life sciences sector, Rama Rao said Telangana has a target of making the industry worth USD 100 billion from USD 50 billion in 2021. "Trade and investment to an extent of USD 3 billion have been announced during the past 19 editions and over 250 letters of intents, bilateral cooperation agreements and MoUs have been signed," he said. Telangana to spend Rs 1,000 cr on development of Kondagattu Hanuman temple

The Telangana government is ready to spend Rs 1000 crore for the development of Hanuman temple complex at Kondagattu in Jagtial district, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said on Wednesday. An official release from the CM's office said, Rao visited the shrine and held a review meeting with the officials on its redevelopment. The CM clarified that the reconstruction and development of the temple will be undertaken in accordance with the Vaishnava tradition. There is no shortage of funds and he (Rao) is ready to allocate Rs 1000 crore, the release said. The CM also suggested to the officials that a suitable place be identified to set up a Vedic school in the name of "Anjanadri". Rao along with public representatives and officials went around the temple and carried out inspection, it said. Later, during the meeting that lasted for over two hours, he discussed measures to be taken for the redevelopment of the temple and surrounding areas with officials of the concerned departments.

M&M's Telangana plant to roll out its first electric vehicle next year

Auto maker Mahindra and Mahindra expects its first electric vehicle to roll out from its manufacturing plant in Zaheerabad, Telangana by 2024, a senior executive of the firm said on Friday. Speaking to reporters after announcing the third quarter results for FY2022-23, Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director, M&M Ltd said the new plant which will come in the existing facility will be up and running in two years. M&M on Thursday had said it signed a MoU with Telangana government for its proposed expansion plans at its existing manufacturing facility at Zaheerabad plant in Medak district. The estimated investment for the proposed expansion is expected to be approximately Rs 1,000 crore to be made over a period of eight years by the company or any of its group companies, the firm said. Forest cover goes up by 6.95% in Telangana between 2015 to 2021: Report

Forest cover in Telangana increased by 6.85 per cent during 2015 to 2021 period, according to the Telangana Socio Economic Outlook 2023. The India State of Forest Reports has stated that the forest cover in Telangana was 19,854 sq km in 2015, which subsequently increased to 20,582 sq km in 2019 and to 21,214 sq kms in 2021, registering a remarkable increase of 6.85 per cent in forest cover from 2015 to 2021, the survey brought out by the government mentioned. Hyderabad registered the highest decadal growth rate of forest cover at 146.8 per cent between 2011-21 among the seven major cities of Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai, it said. Telangana saw over 10,000 cases of cyber crime in 2021, reveals report

Cyber crimes in Telangana have doubled to 10,303 cases in 2021 from 5,025 cases in 2020 with Cyberabad topping the chart with 4,412 felonies, according to a report. Revealing data, the Telangana Socio Economic Outlook 2023 said,"As many as 10,303 cases of cyber crime were registered in 2021 as against 5,025 cases in 2020, an increase of 105.03 per cent. The highest number of cases were reported from the police commissionerates of Cyberabad (4,412) followed by Hyderabad (3,303) and Rachakonda (1,548), it said. Cyber crime is a rapidly evolving transnational crime committed across borders and affects individuals and societies globally, said the report. It said the Telangana government is trying to use technical assistance in capacity-building, prevention, creating awareness, increasing cooperation, collecting data, researching and analysing cybercrime, the report said. Telangana state Budget pegs Rs 2.9 trillion expenditure for 2023-24

Telangana Finance Minister T Harish Rao on Monday introduced the State Budget in the Assembly with any expenditure outlay of Rs 2,90,396 crore for 2023-24. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao's brainchild Dalit Bandhu scheme was allotted Rs Rs 17,700 crore. The scheme provides financial assistance at the rate of Rs 10 lakh per beneficiary to take up any business of his or her choice. In the Budget, an amount of Rs 36,750 crore is proposed as Special Development Fund for Scheduled Castes while the Medical and Health Department gets Rs 12,161 crore. Providing statistics, Harish Rao said Telangana's share in the country's GDP grew to 4.89 per cent in 2020-21 from 4.1 per cent in 2014-15. The per capita income of Telangana is estimated to increase from Rs 1,12,162 in 2013-14 to Rs 3,17,115 in 2022-23, he said. The Budget allotted Rs 2,11,685 crore towards Revenue Expenditure and Rs 37,525 crore for Capital Expenditure.

Veteran filmmaker K Viswanath dies after suffering from age-related issues

Dadasaheb Phalke awardee and renowned filmmaker Kasinadhuni Viswanath died at a private hospital here. He was 92. Viswanath was unwell for some time and was suffering from age-related issues, sources said. He passed away at the hospital around midnight Thursday. Popularly known as 'Kalatapasvi', Viswanath was born in February 1930 in Andhra Pradesh. A prominent name, not just in Telugu cinema but also in Tamil and Hindi films, he became the 48th recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke award, the highest recognition in Indian cinema.
