Bhel gets Rs 4,000 crore order for 1600 MW thermal project from Adani Power

State-owned engineering firm Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has received an order worth Rs 4,000 crore from Adani Power Limited for setting up the 1,600 MW Raigarh Phase-II Thermal Power Plant at Raigarh, Chhattisgarh. BHEL in a filing said that it received a Letter of Award on March 27, 2024, for the supply of equipment and supervision of erection & commissioning for 2x800 MW power project based on supercritical technology at Raigarh Phase II, Chhattisgarh. The boiler and Turbine Generator are to be manufactured at BHEL's Trichy and Haridwar plants respectively. The supply of Unit-1 will take 31 months and Unit-2 (35 months).

Govt says no plan formulated to phase out old coal-based power plants

The government on Tuesday said it has not formulated any plan to phase out old coal-based thermal power plants in the country. India has set an ambitious energy transition programme, which includes having 500 GW of renewable energy capacity, by 2030. "No Sir, Central Electricity Authority vide an advisory dated January 20, 2023 suggested that no retirement or repurposing of coal-based power stations will be done before 2030 considering the expected energy demand scenario and availability of capacity in future," Power Minister R K Singh said in a written reply to Rajya Sabha. He was replying to a question on whether the government has formulated any plan to phase out the old coal-based thermal power plants in the country, including in Odisha. Singh said that operators of thermal power plants were also advised implementation of Renovations & Modernisation (R&M) and Life Extension (LE) of their units for running up to 2030 and beyond or operating in two-shift mode to facilitate ..

India to be self-sufficient in thermal coal output by FY25: Pralhad Joshi

Union coal minister Pralhad Joshi on Wednesday exuded confidence that the country would be largely self-sufficient in thermal coal production by the financial year 2024-25. "We will be largely self-sufficient in thermal coal production by 2024-25 and the country will not face any problem in the thermal energy sector," Joshi said while interacting with the media during the investors' conclave on 'opportunities in the coal sector'. He said that in the sixth phase, commercial auction is being conducted for 141 coal mines across the country, including 28 blocks of Madhya Pradesh. According to the minister, for the first time in the country's history, such a large number of coal blocks are being auctioned. He said that the government is expected to get a revenue of Rs 25,000 crore from this auction, while two lakh people will get employment after the start of production.
