Asserting that the BJP-led government in Tripura has ushered in many development initiatives since 2018, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Saturday urged people to cast their votes in favour of the BJP in Assembly polls next year "as all other parties have a long history of political violence". President Murmu on a 2-day visit to Tripura; to inaugurate govt projects

President Droupadi Murmu would reach Agartala on Wednesday on a maiden two-day visit to the Northeastern state of Tripura, officials said. Murmu is scheduled to land at the Agartala airport around 11.15 am, following which she will head to Narsingarh in West Tripura district to lay the foundation stone for the Tripura National Law University and inaugurate the Tripura State Judicial Academy, they said. She will also inaugurate the MLA hostel at Capital Complex, and virtually lay the foundation stones for various Tripura government projects related to roads, schools and hostels for students. The president will also launch the Maharaja Birendra Kishore Manikya Museum and Cultural Centre at Agartala and the IIIT-Agartala from the Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhaban. President Murmu to arrive in Tripura for two-day visit from Oct 12

President Droupadi Murmu will inaugurate several development projects in Tripura during her two-day visit to the northeastern state on Wednesday, officials said. The President is scheduled to land at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport here on Wednesday at 11.15 am. It will be Murmu's first visit to the state after becoming the President. During the visit, Murmu will flag off Guwahati to Kolkata express up to Agartala and extension of Agartala-Jiribam-Agartala Jan Satabdi express up to Khongsang (Manipur) with new LHB rake and Vistadome coach, they said. She will also dedicate the trans-shiftment yard which was built at Nischintapur, crossing point of Indo-Bangla railway project to the nation, six km away from the state capital by video link. President Murmu likely to visit Tripura for two days from October 13

President Droupadi Murmu is likely to visit Tripura for two days from October 13 to inaugurate various development projects in the northeastern state, an official said on Friday. During the day, DGP Amitabh Ranjan held a high-level meeting on security arrangements for the President's proposed visit, he said. "We have a preparatory meeting on the President's visit. Security arrangements will be finalised after receiving details of her tour programme," the official said. This will be her first visit to Tripura as the President of India. Murmu is likely to arrive at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport here on October 13, he said. SEC starts electoral roll revision process for VC election in TTAADC

The State Election Commission (SEC) of Tripura has initiated the process to prepare the final electoral rolls for conducting elections to village committees (VCs) of Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). The VC elections are considered important as Assembly elections are due in the state next year. The elections were scheduled to take place by March 3, last year but could not be held due to the Covid pandemic. The tribal council has 587 Village Committees which are similar to gram panchayats and 68 per cent of Tripura's geographical area 10,491 square km falls under the autonomous district council. In July, the High Court of Tripura, while hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL), asked the state election panel to complete the VC elections by the first week of November. TMC removes Tripura president Bhowmik amid speculations of rejoining BJP

The Trinamool Congress removed its Tripura state president Subal Bhowmik on Wednesday amid speculations that he may return to the BJP. Bhowmik, a former MLA from Sonamura, had crossed over to the TMC from BJP in July last year. "This press release is to announce that Subal Bhowmik is being relieved from his duties of state president of Tripura Pradesh Trinamool Congress with immediate effect," the TMC said. "All the members of the state committee, state youth committee, state mahila committee, state ST cell shall continue in their position," it said. BSF jawan critically injured in gunbattle with millitants at Tripura border

A BSF jawan was critically injured in a fierce gunbattle with suspected NLFT militants at the India-Bangladesh border in North Tripura's Kanchanpur sub-division on Friday, officials said. The injured jawan, identified as Grijesh Kumar of BSF's 145 Battalion, was airlifted to Agartala for treatment, they said. A BSF team was on area domination operation at Sima-II border outpost area in Kanchanpur subdivision when the firing started from the Bangladeshi side, they added. "A group of heavily armed militants opened fire at BSF jawans from the Jupui area in Bangladesh's Rangamati Hill district. The jawans retaliated, leading to a fierce encounter between the two sides," Superintendent of Police (SP) Kiran Kumar K told PTI. "A BSF jawan suffered four bullet wounds in the operation," he said. The Central government has notified the establishment of campuses of the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) in Goa and Tripura.The Women Safety Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Monday issued a notification mentioning the move of the Central government as part of plans to set up 10 NFSU campuses in different states and five abroad over the next five years."In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (4) of section 4 of the National Forensic Sciences University Act, 2020 (32 of 2020), the Central Government hereby notifies that the campuses established at Goa and Tripura shall include as the campuses of the National Forensic Sciences University," the notification reads.Gandhinagar-based National Forensic Science University (NFSU) was formed by an Act of Parliament in 2020. Tripura logs 446 new Covid cases, 1 death; positivity ratio at 12.14%

Tripura on Sunday reported 446 new COVID-19 cases, 230 more than the previous day, with the tally mounting to 1,04,728, a health department bulletin said. The toll rose to 922 as one more person succumbed to the infection in the last 24 hours, it said. The fresh COVID fatality was reported at GB Pant Hospital here, and the patient had other ailments, a health department official said. At least 293 people recuperated from the disease Since Saturday, taking the total number of recoveries to 1,01,357, the bulletin said. The daily positivity ratio stood at 12.14 per cent, up from 11.61, as the fresh cases were detected from 3,673 sample tests, it said. Tripura now has 2,380 active patients, and most of them are undergoing home quarantine. Tripura govt to push for establishment of tea auction centre in state: CM

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Sunday said his government will try its best to push for establishing a tea auction centre in the state to provide better marketing facility for the tea planters. Currently, Tripura tea planters send their finished tea to either Guwahati or Kolkata auction centre to sell their product pushing the cost of tea. "The government will try its best to set up a tea auction centre in the state so that tea planters can sell their products here. Once implemented this will bring down the transportation cost of finished product", he said after inaugurating Tripura's first gas-based tea processing unit in West Tripura district's Durgabari Tea Estate. Saha said the northeastern state produces 9-10 lakh kg tea annually which is 10 per cent of the county's total tea production. Tripura is the fifth state in terms of tea production in the country.
