Railway Board reduces speed of Vande Bharat, Gatiman Express to 130 kmph

The Railway Board has reduced the speed of semi-high speed trains Gatimaan Express and Vande Bharat from 160 kmph to 130 kmph till the automatic train protection system gets operational. At present, only Gatiman Express and two Vande Bharat trains run at 160 kmph between Hazarat Nizamuddin (New Delhi) and Agra rail route due to suitable track conditions. On June 24, the Railway Board's executive director (signal) issued a letter to the general manager of NCR zone and said that the issue of speed of these trains was examined. ...it is decided that as advised earlier, Zonal Railways to expedite IR-ATP Kavach works in the section and till the time the Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system is operational, trains to run at maximum speed of 130 kmph in the section, the letter said. Vande Bharat trains, India's maiden semi-high speed rail service, have carried more than two crore passengers till March 31 this year since the first set of two trains was flagged off between Delhi and Varanasi on February 15, 2019, officials said Monday. The railways on Monday celebrated 171 years of existence as the first train ran on this day in 1853 between Mumbai and Thane. The officials said the railways' journey over the years has been stupendous as it successfully expanded its network to cover almost every nook and corner of the country and, today, Vande Bharat has become a new identity of a modernizing network. Starting from two trains on one route five years ago, today 102 Vande Bharat trains are offering their services on 100 routes covering 284 districts in 24 states and Union Territories, according to data shared by the railways. Ramkrishna Forgings bags Rs 270 crore order for Vande Bharat trains

Ramkrishna Forgings Ltd on Monday said it has received an order of Rs 270 crore from a consortium led by BHEL to supply bogie frames of Vande Bharat train sets. The scope of the project involves the development and validation of the bogie frames for the sleeper version of the Vande Bharat train sets, Ramkrishna Forgings Ltd (RKFL) said in a statement. This order encompasses 32 train sets, each comprising 16 coaches and RKFL will be producing a total of 1,024 bogie frames, it said. The order valued at Rs 270 crore is to be supplied to the BHEL TRSL consortium, the statement said. RCF to roll out first prototype of Vande Metro coach by April: S Srinivas

The Rail Coach Factory (RCF) in Kapurthala in Punjab is aiming to roll out the first prototype of Vande Metro coach for intercity travel ?by April this year, its general manager S Srinivas has said. A total of 16 such coaches are expected to be ready by the later part of 2024-25 financial year, he said. Vande Metro, which is designed on the concept of India's first indigenous semi-high-speed train Vande Bharat, will cater to intercity passengers covering up to a distance of 250 km. A Vande Metro train will have 16 air-conditioned coaches and can run at a maximum speed of 130 km per hour. "This train is meant for intercity traffic," Srinivas told PTI, adding, "We are aiming that the first prototype is ready by April." Following trials, the RCF will start its production. 82 Vande Bharat trains operational, work on to enhance speed to 160 kmph

The number of Vande Bharat trains has been increased to 82 and work is underway to increase the speed of these trains to 160 kilometres per hour on the New Delhi-Mumbai and New Delhi-Howrah routes, the government informed Parliament on Wednesday. In a written reply in the Lok Sabha to questions raised by 10 MPs regarding the services of the Vande Bharat trains, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said, "As on January 31, 2024, 82 Vande Bharat train services are operating across the Indian Railways, connecting states having Broad Gauge (BG) electrified network."
