Indian, Japanese navies kick off 6-day wargame from Visakhapatnam

The Indian and Japanese navies on Wednesday kicked off a six-day wargame off Visakhapatnam to further expand their overall military cooperation. The Indian Navy is hosting the seventh edition of the Japan-India Maritime Exercise (JIMEX) and this edition marks the 11th anniversary of wargame since its inception in 2012. The Indian Navy has deployed India's first indigenously built guided missile destroyer INS Delhi, indigenously built anti-submarine warfare corvette INS Kamorta, fleet tanker INS Shakti, a submarine, maritime patrol aircraft P8I and ship-borne helicopters and fighter aircraft for the exercise, officials said. The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) is represented by the guided missile destroyer JS Samidare and its integral helicopters. The exercise will be conducted over six days in two phases -- a harbour phase that will be followed by warfighting skills at sea. Kin of AP blast victims seek compensation from pharmaceutical company

Relatives of two persons who died in an explosion at a pharma company in Anakapalli district are demanding compensation from the employer. The duo succumbed to chemical burns they suffered in the blast at Sahiti Pharma company, while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Visakhapatnam on Friday evening. "Around 30 relatives of the deceased persons are at the company now. They are demanding compensation from the company side," a police official said on Saturday. The government has announced ex-gratia of Rs 25 lakh lakh each for the deceased persons. Meanwhile, four injured persons were shifted from KGH Hospital to Indus Hospital for better treatment, said Anakapalli district superintendent of police K. V. Murali Krishna, adding that one person continues to undergoing ICU treatment at KGH Hospital. PM to flag off Secunderabad-Visakhapatnam Vande Bharat train on Jan 15

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually flag off a Vande Bharat train between Secunderabad and Visakhapatnam on January 15, Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy has said. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Kishan Reddy would be present at the Secunderabad railway station here for the inaugural service. "Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually flag off the prestigious Vande Bharat train from Secunderabad Railway Station on 15th January at 10.00 AM as a gift to the Telugu people on the occasion of Sankranti," Kishan Reddy said in a release on Wednesday night. The eighth Vande Bharat train in the country will run between Secunderabad and Visakhapatnam in approximately eight hours. The intermediate stops envisaged for the train include Warangal, Khammam, Vijayawada and Rajahmundry, the release added.
