Two Hizbul militants killed in Pulwama encounter

Two Hizbul Mujahideen militants, both close aides of outfit commander Riyaz Naikoo, were killed Thursday in an encounter with security forces in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said. "Based on a credible input about presence of terrorists at Sharshali in Awantipora area of Pulwama district, a cordon and search operation was launched swiftly by security forces in the early hours of Thursday," a police official said. The official said as the searches were going on, security forces were fired upon by militants. The fire was retaliated by security forces, leading to a gunfight. "In the ensuing encounter, two terrorists were neutralized and the bodies retrieved from the site of encounter," he said. The slain militants have been identified as Adnan Ahmad Lone alias Uqaab and Adil Bilal Bhat alias Umair al Hizbi. Kabul: 10 killed, 29 injured in car explosion orchestrated by Taliban

A car explosion orchestrated by the Taliban left around 10 people dead and 29 wounded near a military installation, the G4S security camp, in Kabul city's Police District (PD) 9.The fatalities were confirmed by Najib Danish, the Interior Affairs Ministry's Spokesperson.According to TOLO News, residents had earlier stated that gunfire was heard in the immediate aftermath of the explosion, a claim that has been refuted by Basir Mujahid, the Spokesperson for Kabul police.The injured were rushed to Wazir Akbar Khan Hospital after the incident.

Kabul: 10 killed in attack on security compound

At least 10 people were killed and 19 others got injured in an attack on a security compound in Kabul on Thursday, Al Jazeera reported.Najib Danish, spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior, informed that the explosion occurred close to a compound of British security contractor group G4S, near an industrial park on the main road from Kabul towards eastern Afghanistan.Officials stated that a suicide bomber detonated his explosives following which a gun battle ensued between other fighters and the forces in the area.

Yemen govt calls for block of rebel media outlet

Yemen's internationally recognised government has called for a block on the broadcast of a rebel television channel from the war-torn country, the state news agency reported Wednesday. Information Minister Moammer al-Eryani said the Huthi-run Al-Masirah television was "generating poisonous sectarianism and inciting violence and hatred", Saba news agency reported. He added that Arab satellite operator Nilesat -- which is based in Cairo -- had stopped broadcasting the rebel outlet. The Huthi rebels condemned the calls, tweeting a link to a live stream of their Al-Masirah channel. Explosion rattles Kabul

An explosion rocked Afghanistan's capital city of Kabul on Wednesday evening. Details regarding the loss of lives and properties are still awaited.Police confirmed that the blast occurred near a security camp in the east of Kabul, reported Tolo News. Head of Kabul's Police District 9 Bismillah Taban said that the explosion was a car bomb targeting a military installation called G4S security camp.Few eyewitnesses and residents of the area stated that gunfire was heard from the scene of the incident. They also said that a number of residential houses were damaged in the explosion.However, Kabul police spokesman Basir Mujahid denied the gunfire report and said that security forces were on their way to the attack scene.The Ministry of Public Health has not confirmed the figures of casualties if any but the eyewitnesses claimed that as many as eight people were wounded. Minor fire at Kasba housing apartment

A small fire broke out on Wednesday night following an explosion inside a room of a security guard at a housing apartment in south Kolkatas Kasba area, police said. There was no report of any injury, they said. The fire was reported at around 9.15 pm following the explosion that blew away the windows and doors of the security guards room in Bosepukurs Talbagan area, a police officer said. The security guard was not present at the time of the explosion, he said. "The cause of the explosion and fire is not known," the police officer said.

Arunachal Guv calls upon armed forces to motivate, train youth

Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (retd) B D Mishra on Wednesday called upon the armed forces stationed in the state to motivate and train the youth to join the army. Inaugurating the 'Tawang Maitree Diwas', a festival of friendship and bonhomie between the army and people of the state, Mishra said the event has laid a strong foundation in building good relations between the armed forces and the civilian population, an official release said here. 1984 anti-Sikh riots: HC asks police to examine if cases lodged regarding unidentified bodies

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday asked the Delhi Police to find out if any cases were lodged in connection with 22 unidentified bodies of victims of the 984 anti-Sikh riots and said the evidence should be re-examined for further action as required under the law. Justice R K Gauba gave the suggestion to the police in his judgement dismissing the 22-year-old appeals of persons convicted and awarded five-year jail term for rioting, looting and burning houses in Trilokpuri area here during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. The high court noted in its verdict that prosecutions in this case covered only 73 homicidal deaths, whereas a total of 95 bodies were "gathered during the night of November 2-3, 1984" as per the FIR. Afghan official: 30 civilians die during battle with Taliban

At least 30 civilians were killed along with 16 Taliban fighters as Afghan government forces battled insurgents in southern Helmand province overnight, provincial officials said Wednesday.
