Militant involved in attack on police party killed

A Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen (TuM) militant involved in a grenade attack in which three police personnel were injured in Baramulla district was killed Thursday in a gunfight with security forces in Pulwama district, police said. Showkat Ahmad Bhat was wanted in Wednesday's Pattan grenade incident and was killed in the gunfight in the south Kashmir district, a police official said. He said some arms and ammunition were recovered from his possession. Bhat had managed to escape Wednesday while his accomplice, Faizan Majeed Bhat - a resident of Tral in Pulwama - was arrested by the police who chased them after the militants lobbed a grenade on a police party at a naka in Pattan area. Three police personnel, including Deputy Superintendent of Police Zafar Mehdi, were injured in the attack. The duo had recently joined Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen outfit, the official said.

Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen terrorist killed in J-K's Pulwama

The security forces on Thursday neutralised a Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen (TuM) terrorist in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir.This comes a day after, security forces in a joint operation gunned down two terrorists and their active accomplice in Syed Ali Akbar area of Fateh Kadal.A police official also got killed in the encounter, which broke out after a search and cordon operation was launched in Fateh Kadal area. Two officers of the paramilitary force also suffered injuries while combating terrorists.While search operation was going on at the target location, terrorists made indiscriminate firing from inside. Top cops of 8 states decide to enhance coordination to tackle crime

Top police brass of eight northern states and some paramilitary forces proposed a slew of measures Wednesday to enhance coordination among them to tackle crime in the region. The proposed measures included shifting of hardcore criminals to jails of other states and deploying paramilitary forces for prison security besides sharing real time inputs about criminals and their activities. Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police Dilbag Singh Wednesday said his force was ready for the nine-phased panchayat elections scheduled to begin from November 17 in the state. Five men arrested for robbing vans carrying Amazon products: Police

Five men were arrested for allegedly robbing a van carrying Amazon products worth lakhs of rupees, a police official said Wednesday. The official identified them as Kishan (45), Kuldeep Ragha (24), Aakash Rathore (25), Karan (25) and Aman. On June 26, a complaint was filed by a person alleging that his van enroute to Karol Bagh from Manesar with Amazon products was looted by men who forcibly intercepted the vehicle at Ridge road, snatched his keys at gun-point and decamped with it, said Madhur Verma, deputy commissioner of police (New Delhi). Rathore used to work as driver with Amazon Transportation Services in Gurgaon and was aware of the shipment process, which includes the sealing of such vehicles. Militant arrested after grenade attack on police party in J-K's Baramulla

A Tehreekul Mujahideen militant was Wednesday arrested by security forces soon after carrying out a grenade attack in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir, injuring three cops, police said. "Based on credible inputs that some terrorists are travelling on the Baramulla-Srinagar highway, a police team set up a checkpoint at Baba Teng Pattan," a police spokesman said. He said one of the vehicles was signalled to stop but the militants inside the vehicle hurled a grenade. "One police officer, DySp Zafar Mehdi and two other cops -- Shabir Ahmad and Ashiq Hussain -- sustained injuries," the spokesman said. However, the other cops chased the fleeing militants and managed to apprehend one of them, he said. 5 booked under UAPA for planning to target Parkash Badal

Shamli Police on Wednesday booked five persons, associated with Sikh militant group Khalistan Liberation Front, under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for "planning to target" former Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, officials said. The accused have been identified as Amrat Singh, Gurjan, Karan Singh, Jarman and Karma, among whom Jarman and Karma were absconding, while the rest have been arrested, said Circle Officer Rajesh Kumar Tiwari. Police and intelligence agencies of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh are trying to locate the absconding persons, officials said. During interrogation, the accused revealed they had looted police rifles and were planning to target the former Punjab chief minister. Police recovered the stolen rifles from the arrested, which were hidden in a Gurudwara in Shamli district. On October 2, two police rifles were stolen from Jhinjhana police station area in Shamli district. In the incident, two policemen had sustained injuries.
