Ghanshyam Tiwari accuses Raje of 'stealing' her upcoming yatra's name

Former BJP leader and president of newly founded Bharat Vahini Party, Ghanshyam Tiwari today accused Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje Scindia of "stealing" the name of her upcoming 'Rajasthan Gaurav Yatra'. Tiwari alleged that it was a "deliberate conspiracy" of the BJP-led state government to rechristen the programme from the earlier 'Suraj Gaurav Yatra' to the present 'Rajasthan Gaurav Yatra'. It shows the intellectual bankruptcy of the party, he said at a press conference here. Raje's 40-day yatra is aimed at seeking the people's mandate in the upcoming state assembly elections and will cover all the divisions in the state. BJP national president Amit Shah will flag off the yatra from Charbhuja Nath temple in Rajasthan's Rajsamand district on August 4. The event was earlier named Suraj Gaurav Yatra, which was yesterday renamed as Rajasthan Gaurav Yatra. Tiwari had earlier taken a dig at the Suraj Gaurav Yatra, saying that it was 'Kuraj' (bad governance) Gaurav Yatra. BJP ...

Mattala airport deal will embroil Sri Lanka in India-China 'regional power games': Rajapaksa

Sri Lanka's proposed deal with India over the Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport will "unnecessarily" embroil the island national in India-China "regional power games", former President Mahinda Rajapaksa said today. The Sri Lankan government earlier this month had announced that it would go ahead with the deal with India to jointly operate the airport in the southern Hambantota district. The country has also entered a 99-year lease with China to develop an industrial park and an oil bunkering facility at the Hambantota port. "We are opposed to the selling of national assets," Rajapaksa said while in Tangalle town of his home district Hambantota. "Our country will be unnecessarily caught in regional power games due to this," he added. Rajapaksa was underlining the concerns that the current government in a bid to balance India in Sri Lanka's "over dependence" on China is to handover the Mattala airport to serve New Delhi's interests. The USD 210 million facility, 241-km south-east .
