Three teenage gunmen today stormed the governor's headquarters in Erbil, the capital of Iraqi Kurdistan, opening fire and killing one employee before being shot dead, officials said. Initial reports said two gunmen had stormed the building in Erbil in the early morning, shooting and wounding a policeman. But as the day unfolded, the toll rose to one employee killed and several members of the security forces wounded as Kurdish security forces exchanged fire with the attackers, officials said. "An employee was killed in the assault on the provincial headquarters," Erbil governor Nawzad Hadi told a news conference. The Haryana government would allocate 10 acre land to the Army's Western Command, Chandimandir, to construct a Sainik Education Centre in the Panchkula district. Security forces have arrested a suspected militant from Handwara area of Kupwara district in Jammu and Kashmir, police said today. A joint team of army, police and CRPF conducted search operations in the orchards of Humpora in Handwara area last evening following information about the presence of militants in the area, a police official said. During the operation, the terrorist identified as Waqar Ahmad Malik was held and 613 live rounds along with an Underbarrel Grenade Launcher (UBGL) were recovered from his possession, the official added.

A former provincial minister and candidate of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf was today laid to rest, a day after he was killed in a suicide attack in the troubled Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province. A woman additional district judge, along with three other passengers, was today looted at knife-point on a running train between Narsinghpur and Jabalpur stations in Madhya Pradesh, police said. The incident happened at around 4:30am today when additional district judge Aarti Shukla (40) and three others were travelling in coach A-1 of the 22191 Indore-Jabalpur Overnight Express, Jabalpur railway police inspector Y Mishra told PTI. He said that four unidentified persons looted the passengers at knife-point when the train was moving between Narsinghpur and Jabalpur stations of West Central Railway. A huge haul of gelatin sticks and detonators were seized in Pakur district today, police said. Superintendent of Police, Sailendra Prasad Barnwal told reporters that 10,000 gelatin sticks and 3000 detonators were seized from a place under Malpahari outpost in the district. A Naxal was gunned down today in an encounter with security forces in Kondagaon district of Chhattisgarh, police said. The gun battle took place in the forest of Chhote Usri village under Bayanar police station limits when a team of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) was out on an anti-Naxal operation, Kondagaon Superintendent of Police Abhishek Pallav told PTI over the phone. When the patrolling team was advancing through Chhote Usri, located around 250 km from the state capital Raipur, an exchange of fire broke out between the two sides, he said. After guns fell silent, the body of a male ultra was recovered from the spot, he said, adding two firearms - one 09 mm pistol and a single barrel muzzle loading gun - were also found at the encounter site. The slain ultra is believed to be Jugnu, a member of the LOS (local organisation squad) who was active in the region, Pallav said. Military sources in the region said the attack targeted the Bar-sanguni military base which lies some 40 kilometres (24 miles) north of the regional capital Kismayo. The attackers rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into a checkpoint before gunmen attacked the base, exchanging gunfire with soldiers for over an hour.
