In the wake of the anti-Sterlite protests which took place on Tuesday in Tamil Nadu's Thoothukudi, Congress President Rahul Gandhi claimed that the protestors were killed for rejecting Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh's (RSS) ideologies."Tamilians have been massacred because they refused to accept Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS's) ideologies. The RSS and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have been opposed by Tamil Nadu. Five civilians killed as Pakistani troops shell border villages, posts

Five civilians were killed and nine others injured as Pakistani troops rained mortars and opened heavy fire on Indian villages and BoPs along the International Border (IB) in Jammu, Kathua and Samba districts today. Today is the 9th day of continuous firing and shelling by Pakistani Rangers along the IB and LoC in Jammu, Kathua and Samba districts. A senior police officer said two civilians were killed and six injured in the shelling and firing in Samba that started at 9 AM. Pakistani Rangers also targeted civilian areas and posts in Kathua district. "There was heavy firing and shelling on civilian areas and posts along the IB in Hiranagar sector of Kathua district before dawn", a senior police officer told PTI. Gunmen kill 2 in attack on Iranian policeman's home

Gunmen have broken into a policeman's house in southeastern Iran, killing two people and wounding a third. The official IRNA news agency says the break-in happened late on Monday night in the city of Zahedan, the capital of Sistan and Baluchistan province. Police occasionally clash with ethnic Baluch militants and drug traffickers in the province, which borders Afghanistan and Pakistan. The IRNA report did not identify the victims or say who might have been behind the attack. The report did not say whether the policeman was home at the time or harmed in the attack.

TN Govt constitutes Inquiry Commission on Tuticorin violence

The Tamil Nadu government today appointed a one-person Commission of Inquiry headed by a retired judge of the Madras High Court to probe the violence at Tuticorin in which ten people were killed. The inquiry will cover the "law and order incidents following the siege of the District Collectorate by thousands of persons violating prohibitory orders," an official release here said. Appointing retired Judge Aruna Jagadeesan for the task, the government said she would submit her report to the government. However, the time-frame for submitting the report has not been specified. The violence during a protest, seeking permanent closure of Vedanta group's Sterlite Copper plant over alleged pollution issues also saw several dozens of men and women sustaining injuries which includes police personnel as well. At least three persons were injured todayin a grenade attack by militants in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said. The ultras hurled agrenadeat security forcespatrol party at Goriwan Chowk in Bijbehara area of the south Kashmir district, causing injuries to at least three civilians, a police official said. 'MHA asks TN govt to provide details of Tuticorin incident'

C'garh: Naxals blow up BJP MP's farmhouse ahead of CM's visit

Naxals blew up the farmhouse of a BJP MP with Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in Chhattisgarh's Kanker district, ahead of Chief Minister Raman Singh's visit to the area, the police said today. There was no report of any casualty as the farmhouse was empty at the time of the attack that took place late last night. Two rooms of the farmhouse, belonging to BJP's Lok Sabha member Vikram Usendi, were damaged in the blast, they said. Chief Minister Singh is scheduled to today visit Antagarh, around 15 km away from the village where the farmhouse is located, in Kanker as part of his ongoing 'Vikas Yatra'. ITBP offers pre-recruitment training for Arunachal youths

The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has offered to provide pre-recruitment training to local youths in Arunachal Pradesh to help them get employed in the force, an official release said. ITBP Director General (DG) R K Pachnanda called on Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu yesterday and said such pre-recruitment training would equip local youths with basic physical fitness required for qualifying in recruitments in the force. The chief minister appreciated the ITBP DG's offer to provide pre-recruitment training to local youths and assured to take up the coordination part of it in a meeting with the deputy commissioners scheduled in the second week of June. India has said it is "unrealistic" to expect from UN peacekeepers protection of civilians in the absence of clear mandates, and suggested developing a "politically attuned" framework for the purpose. Speaking at a UN Security Council debate on 'Protection of Civilians in Armed Conflicts' yesterday, India's Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Syed Akbaruddin, said the Council's membership needs to frame mandates with clarity and specificity. "Every time this Council reviews a peace keeping operation, it is incumbent that it undertakes a serious examination of whether the peacekeepers have the ability to do what they are expected to carry out in extremely trying circumstances," Akbaruddin said.
