North Korea resets its clock, rejoins South's time zone

North Korea on Friday reset its clock forward by 30 minutes to match with the South's time zone as a conciliatory move.The new time zone will go into effect on Saturday."The time-resetting is the first practical step taken after the historic third north-south summit meeting to speed up the process for the north and the south to become one and turn their different and separated things into the same and single ones," reported North Korea's news agency KCNA.The move comes in the backdrop of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in ending their historic summit on Friday with a glimmer of hope and positivity in Panmunjom.To begin with, Kim became the first-ever North Korean leader to step on the South Korean soil, when he took a step at the border village of Panmunjom in the Demilitarised Zone (DMZ), the world's most heavily guarded border, separating the two countries. Civilian shot dead in J-K's Baramulla

A civilian has been shot dead by the terrorists in Baramulla's Sopore area in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday.The civilian has been identified as Mohammad Ashraf.More details are awaited.A few hours back, terrorists hurled a grenade at a police station in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district.The grenade exploded just outside the station.Police inside the station fired a few shots in the air to deter the attackers.A search operation has been launched.No casualties have been reported yet.

Man shot dead by militants in J&K

Militants tonight shot dead a person and injured his wife in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said. The militants fired upon Mohammad Ashraf Mir at Harwan in Bomai area of Sopore township of the north Kashmir district, a police official said. He said Mir and his wife were critically injured in the firing. While Mir scumbed to his injuries, his wife has been rushed to a hospital, he said. Further details are awaited, the official said.

Dozens of Palestinians wounded in Gaza border protest

Dozens of Palestinians were wounded today as thousands demonstrated on the Gaza border for the sixth week in a row in a wave of protests that has already seen nearly 50 people killed by Israeli fire. Medics treated 170 demonstrators for gunshot wounds and tear gas, with 69 taken to hospital, a spokesman for the Gaza health ministry said. Black smoke billowed over a protest camp east of Gaza City where Palestinians were burning tyres and flying kites, at least one carrying a Molotov cocktail intended on setting fire to nearby Israeli fields. After advancing toward the border fence, protesters would retreat when the Israeli army fired tear gas. A military spokeswoman said that some of the protesters threw stones at the Israeli forces. Crowds were smaller than previous weeks, with Palestinians saying they were expecting a major protest on May 14, when the United States will move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Militants today lobbed a grenade towards a police station in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, a police official said. He said some aerial shots were fired by a sentry after the explosion. There was no loss of life and property. The official said the area has been cordoned off and a manhunt has been launched to nab the attackers.

5 IS militants killed in Afghanistan

At least five militants affiliated with the Islamic State (IS) terrorist outfit have been killed during the airstrikes of the US forces in Afghanistan's Nangarhar province.The US forces carried out airstrikes using unmanned aerial vehicles in Haska Mina district, Khaama Press reported.Some heavy and light weapons belonging to the terror group have been destroyed as well.No comments have been received from the anti-government armed militant groups, including IS militants in connection with the report so far.This comes in tandem with various ongoing counter-terrorism operations in certain northern provinces as the militant and terrorist groups are attempting to expand their insurgency activities in the north.The US military based in Afghanistan also conduct regular airstrikes against the IS, Taliban, and other militant and terrorist groups.The US forces conduct airstrikes by using unmanned aerial vehicles in the province to clamp down the militants, according to the reports.

5 leaders of tribal party killed in Bangladesh hills, violence grips 2 dists

Tension gripped two hill districts in southeastern Bangladesh today after five leaders of a tribal party's breakaway group were killed and 10 others injured in an attack by unidentified gunmen, police said. According to media reports, tension gripped Khagrachhari and Rangamati districts following the attack on the United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) leaders, prompting police and army troops in the neighbourhood to intensify security vigil fearing eruption of further violence among the four factions of two regional tribal parties. Security forces exchange fire with Maoists

There was exchange of fire between security forces and a Maoist squad led by Asim Mondal alias Akash, who was allegedly involved in the killing of JMM MP Sunil Mahto, today in Jharkhand's East Singhbhum district, police said. Akash carries a reward of Rs one crore on his head while his squad members Sachin and Madan Mahato carry rewards of Rs 15 lakh each, the police said. Hundreds of Palestinians began gathering on the Gaza border today for the sixth week of protests in which dozens have already been killed by Israeli fire. At a protest camp east of Gaza City, several hundred people prepared for demonstrations expected to gain momentum in the mid-afternoon following the main weekly Muslim prayers. Four killed in multiple suicide blasts in NE Nigeria

At least four people were killed and nine others injured in multiple suicide attacks outside the northeast Nigerian city of Maiduguri, the emergency services and residents said today. The attacks happened just days after twin suicide blasts at a mosque and a market killed 86 people in neighbouring Adamawa state. "We evacuated four dead bodies and nine injured persons to the hospital this morning," Bello Danbatta, chief security officer at the Borno State Emergency Management Agency, told AFP. Four female suicide bombers struck at Mainari Shuwa and neighbouring Mainari Kanuri, some 15 kms north of the Borno state capital late on Thursday. Danbatta said two of the bombers attacked Mainari Shuwa at about 11:00 pm. The first bomber stormed into a home and detonated her explosives, killing three people and injuring nine others. 6 labourers gunned down in Pakistan's Balochistan

Six labourers working on a mobile tower installation were killed today by some unidentified gunmen in Pakistan's restive Balochistan province, police said. The bike-borne assailants opened fire at the labourers in Kharan district's Laijay area, they said. The labourers, all hailing from Punjab, were working on network installation for a private telecommunication company when they were targeted, Dawn reported. Another labourer was said to be injured in the incident, police said. The attackers escaped unhurt from the spot after the attack. No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. In the past, militants have repeatedly targeted labourers from Punjab and Sindh working in various parts of Balochistan. Last year, four labourers from Sindh working on a road project were gunned down in the same area.

India, SL to firm up plan to combat drug crimes; bilateral meet in Delhi

India and Sri Lanka have decided to enhance mutual cooperation to combat drug crimes as a two-day bilateral meeting of anti-narcotics agencies of the two countries began here today. A delegation of Sri Lankas' Police Narcotics Bureau, led by its Deputy Inspector General Sanjeewa Medawat, has arrived in the national capital to hold talks with their Indian counterparts, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB). The NCB delegation is led by its Director General Abhay. "During the meeting, both sides will discuss issues of mutual interests including trends in illicit trafficking of narcotics drugs and psychotropic substances, sharing operational intelligence on trafficking of heroin, psychotropic substances, precursors and trans-national drug syndicates. Wanted accused gunned down in Muzaffarnagar

A notorious criminal wanted in around 13 cases of loot and murder and carrying a reward of Rs 50,000 on his head was killed in an encounter in Charthawal area of the district, police said here today. Rihan was gunned down in the encounter last evening, said SSP Anant Dev, adding one of the accused's accomplice managed to escape. Constable Harvinder was also injured in the encounter that took place at Dadheru road under Charthawal police station in the district, the SSP said. Two pistols and a bike was also recovered from Rihan's possession, he said.
