4 Naxals killed in encounter with police in Jharkhand

Four Naxals including two women were killed in an encounter between security forces and Maoists in Jharkhand's Palamu district on Monday.The encounter broke out during a special search operation by troops of 134 Battalion of CRPF and State police in Palamu's Naudiha.As of now, the search operation in the area is underway.On February 18, more than 20 Naxals were killed in an encounter in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district.Further details are awaited.

Four Naxals killed in encounter in Jharkhand

Four Naxals, including two women, were killed in an encounter with the security forces in Jharkhand's Palamu district today, officials said. The incident took place at around 8.30 am in the Lalaghati-Naudiha area of the district when a joint team of the 134th battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and state police was out on an anti-Maoist operation, the officials added. The bodies of four Naxals, including those of two women, were recovered, they said. Two self-loading rifles (SLRs) were also recovered from the spot even as the area was being thoroughly searched, the officials added.

BSF foils infiltration bid along IB in J-K's Samba district

BSF troops today foiled an infiltration bid along the International Border (IB) in Jammu and Kashmir's Samba district, police said. BSF troops at a border out post observed some movement along IB in Ramgarh sector around 0500 hours today, a senior police officer told PTI. They fired several rounds and illumination flares, he said adding that the suspected militants were forced back and the infiltration bid was foiled. "Troops are on alert to foil any bid," a BSF officer said. On February 23, the BSF and Pakistan Rangers held a flag meeting along the IB here during which the border guards of the two countries expressed their commitment to maintain peace and tranquility.

More than 100 girls missing after school attack in Nigeria

More than 100 girls are missing after suspected Boko Haram militants attacked their school in northeastern Nigeria.The country's Ministry for Information on Sunday informed that 110 girls have been missing after the raid on the Government Girls Science Technical College in Dapchi, Yobe State.As many as 110 girls have been missing since Monday when armed militants stormed the school.However, the Nigerian government is yet to release an official list of those missing.The ministry is basing the latest number on briefings with the school principal and the Commissioner for Education, reported CNN.On February 22, the Yobe State governor's office said that about 46 students remained missing following an attack by the Boko Haram insurgents the all-girls college.Boko Haram militants kidnapped nearly 300 girls from a school in Chibok in April 2014, setting off global outrage. J-K: Search operation launched in Bandipora

The Security forces on Monday launched a cordon and search operations (CASO) in Hajin town of Jammu and Kashmir's Bandipora district.The CASO has been launched by 45 Bn CRPF, Special Operations Group and 13 RR after terrorists fired on troops at around 5:15 a.m. in the morning.As of now, an intermittent firing between the troops and terrorists is underway.Earlier on Sunday, a policeman lost his life in a militant attack at Soura in Srinagar.The police personnel was guarding the residence of a Hurriyat Conference (M) leader as a militant attacked him and decamped with his service rifle at Soura in the outskirts of Srinagar.This was the second attack in a row after a policeman was killed while guarding Charar-e-Sherief in the central Kashmir's Budgam district on Sunday afternoon.Further details are awaited.

Militants to apologise to victims of Indonesia attacks

The Indonesian government is bringing together dozens of convicted Islamic militants and survivors of attacks in what it hopes will be an important step in combating radicalism and fostering reconciliation. The director of de-radicalization at Indonesia's counter-terrorism agency says about 120 reformed militants will apologize to dozens of victims including survivors of the 2002 Bali bombings and the 2004 bombing of the Australian Embassy in Jakarta. The three days of meetings at a Jakarta hotel that began Monday aren't open to the media except for an event on the final day. Febby Firmansyah Isran, who suffered burns to 45 percent of his body from the 2003 bombing of the J.W. Marriot hotel in Jakarta, said he'd forgiven the perpetrators and now runs a support group for bombing victims.

16 Turkish women sentenced to death in Iraq for joining IS

At least 16 Turkish women were sentenced to death by an Iraqi court for joining the Islamic State militant group, a judiciary spokesman said on Sunday.Iraq is conducting trials of hundreds of foreign women detained with hundreds of their children for supporting or joining the group as its strongholds crumble, the Guardian reported.The central criminal court issued the sentences "after it was proven they belong to the Daesh (IS) terrorist group and they confessed to marrying Daesh elements or providing members of the group with logistical aid or helping them carry out terrorist attacks", said Judge Abdul-Sattar al-Birqdar.All the verdicts were subject to appeal, he said.Thousands of foreigners have fought on behalf of the IS in Iraq and Syria since 2014. Many foreign women came or were brought from overseas to join the militants.More than 1,300 women and children surrendered to Kurdish peshmerga in August after government forces expelled the jihadist group from the northern Iraqi city .

Three Venezuelans killed in suspected rebel attack

Three Venezuelans were shot dead in northeastern Colombia today in an attack blamed on the National Liberation Army (ELN) guerilla group, official sources said. The three were killed by suspected rebels traveling by motorcycle in Tibu, near the Venezuelan border, police said in a statement. The suspects had earlier attacked a police station in the same area, but nobody was wounded, the statement added. The Norte de Santander department, where Tibu is located, is one of Colombia's biggest areas for coca growing, and several drug-trafficking factions operate in the area. The ELN began peace talks with President Juan Manuel Santos's government a year ago in the Ecuadoran capital Quito, but he suspended negotiations at the end of January and ordered a stepped-up military response after bomb attacks blamed on the guerrillas. SA: ISIS-linked Indian-origin woman, partner held in British couple abduction case

South African special police unit Hawks have arrested an Indian-origin woman and her partner, both allegedly linked to ISIS, on charges of abducting a British couple. Fatima Patel and Safydeen Aslam Del Vecchio also face charges of robbery and theft after they went on a spending spree using the couples credit cards, building up a stash of jewellery, camping equipment and electronic devices which were found at a remote location where an ISIS flag was being flown. One killed as DR Congo police fire on banned protests

One person was killed and over 20 were injured today as police fired live bullets and tear gas to disperse banned protests calling on DR Congo President Joseph Kabila to stand down. The church-backed protests in the Democratic Republic of Congo come after months of tension sparked by Kabila's prolonged rule and a long-delayed election in the vast and chronically unstable country. In the capital Kinshasa, one man was killed as police opened fire on demonstrators, according to a senior doctor at the city's St Joseph de Limete hospital. "Since 7:00 am we have received three injured people from the Catholic march. Two were seriously injured and one died from a bullet wound in the chest," Francois Kajingulu said. Two policemen were shot dead by militants today in separate attacks, one at a police post near the revered Chrar-e-Shareef shrine and another outside the residence of a Hurriyat leader, in the Kashmir valley today, officials said. CRPF decides to change its annual raising day event date

India's largest paramilitary force CRPF has decided to again change the date of its annual raising day event which will now be held every year on March 19, the day when the country's first Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel presented President's colours to it in 1950. The force, in 2015, had changed the event date to July 27 to mark the historic day when its first battalion was raised in Neemuch in Madhya Pradesh on the same date in 1939, as the Crown Representatives Police (CRP) under the British rule. Before this, the annual event to mark the force's raising day was held in November-October and till 1983 on October 31, the birth day of Sardar Patel. Due to the death of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on this day in 1984, the anniversary celebration date had to be changed.
