China 'firmly opposes' US nuclear report for adversary claims
China today criticised a US report which said that Beijing could secure limited advantage in Asia through limited use of nuclear weapons, saying it has adhered to the policy of "no-first-use" of nuclear weapons under any circumstances. The Pentagon on Friday released the Nuclear Posture Review (NPR) in which it said that the US wants to prevent China from mistakenly concluding that any use of nuclear weapons, however limited, is acceptable. China said that it "firmly opposed" to the NPR published by the US Department of Defence. It is the Pentagon's first NPR since 2010. The 74-page report cast China as "a major challenge to US interests in Asia". Second NIA chargesheet against NDFB terrorists
The Guwahati National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a second supplementary chargesheet against the terrorists who had attacked the Adivasi Community in Shantipur village in 2014.The chargesheet was filed on February 2 in a Special NIA Court.In the incident that took place on 25 December 2014, the National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) terrorists killed 12 villagers and injured three.According to the chargesheet, the killings and injuries were caused due to "indiscriminate firing with sophisticated weapons".The evidences till date have been collected by the NIA on the basis of field investigation as well as technical and forensic reports against the accused persons.The accused terrorists are still absconding, while further investigation is going on in the matter.

Taliban bomber kills 11 soldiers in Pak's Swat Valley
A Taliban suicide bomber managed to enter the restricted area of the armed forces' unit and blew himself up near the troops playing volleyball, killing 11 soldiers and wounding 13 others, in the first big attack after 2013 in Pakistan's northwestern Swat Valley. The Inter-Services Public Relations, the Pakistan Army's media wing, said the attacker yesterday targetted the sports area of the armed forces' unit and those killed include seven soldiers who were critically injured in the attack. A captain of the Pakistan Army was among the dead. Thirteen people were injured in the blast in Swat district's Kabal Tehsil. The injured persons were taken to Saidu Teaching Hospital in Mingora in Swat, it added. Drone strikes kill 3 IS terrorists in Afghanistan
At least three Islamic State (IS)-affiliated terrorists have been killed in drone strikes in Afghan's eastern Nangarhar province.In a statement, the governor's office in Nangarhar said that the airstrikes were carried out by the unmanned aerial vehicles of the United States (US) forces in Haska Mina district, reported Khaama Press.Some weapons, ammunition, and explosives of the terror group were also eliminated during the airstrikes, the statement added.Nangarhar is among the relatively calm provinces in the country's Eastern side but the Taliban and the IS have been attempting to expand their foothold in some remote districts of the province in recent years, the report said.The Afghan forces, along with the US forces, conduct operations regularly to eliminate militants from the area.
Maha police returns third of total bullet-proof vests
A total of 1430 bulletproof jackets out of 4600 received by the Maharashtra Police in the aftermath of the 26/11 terror attacks are returned to their manufacturer as they failed the AK-47 bullet test during trials. "We have sent back more than 1400 bulletproof jackets to their manufacturer as they did not pass our test with AK-47 bullets," Additional Director General of Police (Procurement and Coordination), V V Laxminarayana told PTI. The jackets returned to a Kanpur-based manufacturing firm were from three different batches. The police department had ordered 5,000 bullet-proof vests from the company, which also provides such jackets to other Central security forces, for Rs 17 crore but received 4600 pieces after factoring in Customs duty and other charges. Russian warplane shot down by Syrian rebels
During a fierce fight with the forces of President Bashar al-Assad and his foreign backers, a Russian fighter jet was shot down by Syrian rebels in northern Syria's Idlib province.The pilot of the warplane Su-25 was later killed on the ground by the rebels, said the Russian defence ministry.Initial reports said that a portable ground-to-air missile was used to hit the plane in an area under the control of al-Qaida's Syrian link, the Guardian cited the Ministry as saying.Although the rebels wanted to capture the pilot alive, he was shot when he opened fire at them.The pilot has not been identified yet.Russia has lost four warplanes, four helicopters and about 50 servicemen in the conflict, local media said.

Palestinian shot dead by Israeli army during West Bank raid
A Palestinian man was shot dead in clashes with the Israeli army today during a raid in the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian health ministry said. The man was shot in the head after fighting broke out during an Israeli army incursion into the village of Burqin in the northern West Bank, it said. The health ministry identified the dead man as Ahmad Abu Obeid, 19. The army did not comment on the death, but said in a statement it had entered the village, near the city of Nablus, in an attempt to find suspects in the shooting dead of an Israeli rabbi in January. Three army men die in Pak suicide attack
At least three army soldiers were killed and seven were injured in a suicide attack in Pakistan's northwestern province of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on Saturday, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).According to The Dawn, the incident took place at a sports unit of an army camp in Kabal area of Swat district. The suicide bomber reportedly blew himself up in a ground where the security personnel were playing volleyball.Unconfirmed reports suggested that at least 16 people were injured in the suicide attack.Security has been tightened in the area and the police have launched an investigation.Although peace has returned to the valley after a military operation in 2009, security had been a primary concern in the region.In December last year, Pakistani forces gunned down two suspected militants during an anti-terrorism operation in the valley.
