Security forces averted a major mishap by recovering three powerful improvised explosive devices (IEDs), laid by naxals, in the insurgency-hit Kondagaon district in Chhattisgarh today, police said. The explosives, each weighing five kgs, were unearthed by a joint team of Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) and district force between Badko and Aadnar villages under Bayanar police station limits, where road construction is underway, Kondagaon Additional Superintendent of Police Maheshwar Nag told PTI. The construction of the road is going on between Bhatpal and Mardapal under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojna (PMGSY) in the region, located around 250 kms away from here. Egyptian security officials say gunmen have shot dead a Christian man in the turbulent north of the Sinai Peninsula, the latest attack to target members of the country's Christian minority. The officials said three masked gunmen carried out the attack and identified the victim as 35-year-old Bassem Attallah. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to speak to the media. No group claimed responsibility for the Saturday attack, which bore the hallmarks of Islamic State militants, who are spearheading a yearslong an insurgency in northern Sinai. Security forces today recovered an improvised explosive device (IED) on the outskirts of Srinagar, the second such recovery in the city in as many days, police said. The IED was detected by a patrol party of security forces in Maloora area of Srinagar this morning, a police official said. He said the area was cordoned off and a bomb disposal squad was rushed to the spot which destroyed the explosive. Further details are awaited, the official said. The consul general from Chinese consulate in Kolkata MA Zhanwu has said China wants the historical cemetery in Ramgarh to be developed as a global tourist destination. As many as 667 Chinese soldiers who were a part of Allied forces during World War-11 were buried at the garrison town of Ramgarh in Jharkhand. A five-member team from the Chinese consulate in Kolkata led by MA Zhanwu visited the cemetery on Friday last and paid their tribute to the Chinese martyrs who fought against Japan during the war, official sources here said. Delhi, being the seat of the Union government, witnesses a large number of demonstrations, rallies and marches, and dharnas by organisations from across India on political, social, labour, youth and students issues, the report said. In 2017, a total of 9,546 different types of protests were held in Delhi, which was 11.47 per cent less than 10,784 protests witnessed in 2016, as per the Special Branch data. The protests included 4,116 dharnas, 1,586 demonstrations, 320 processions, 443 marches and rallies, 751 meetings and 2,330 other miscellaneous programmes. The Pakistan Army today warned India against any misadventure, asserting that the country's nuclear weapons were exclusively meant to foil any threat emanating from the east. The Army's response came days after Army Chief General Bipin Rawat's recent remark that the force was ready to call Pakistan's "nuclear bluff" and cross the border to carry out any operation if asked by the government. Police and hospital officials say the Saturday blast struck a northern Baghdad neighborhood targeting a police checkpoint on a busy street, and that a number of policemen were among the wounded. A soldier was killed on Saturday after Pakistan troops initiated unprovoked firing on the army posts in Jammu and Kashmir's Sunderbani sector.The army also retaliated; however, in the exchange of fire, Lance Naik Yogesh Muralidhar Bhadane was injured and succumbed to his injuries, said Army official statement.Bhadane, aged 28 years, belonged to Maharshtra's Khalane village. Two persons were injured today when security forces fired on a group of protesters in the outskirts of Srinagar, police said. "Two persons received bullet injuries when security forces opened firing to disperse a group of protesters in HMT area of the city here," a police official said. He said a group of youth took to streets and started pelting stones on the security forces in the area where an IED was detected and defused earlier this morning. "The injured have been taken to a hospital where their condition is said to be stable," the official said.
A Pakistani intruder was shot dead by the Border Security Force along the Indo-Pak border in Amritsar sector when he crossed over to the Indian territory, an official said today. The Ex-17 battalion of the BSF observed suspicious movement of an intruder at Border Outpost Rear Kakkar about 7:55 pm yesterday. The troops warned the intruder. "However, he kept on moving towards the border fence in aggressive posture. The BSF troops then opened fire and killed him," a BSF official said. "About 600 Pakistani rupee was recovered from the intruder," he said. The body of the intruder, about 30 years of age, was handed over to Pakistani Rangers in the evening, the official said. Last year, in September, BSF had foiled an infiltration bid when it shot dead two armed Pakistani intruders along the Indo-Pak border in Ajnala here. In December, a Pakistani intruder was shot dead in Ajnala sector.
