Two persons have been arrested for trying to sell arms and ammunition here, police said today. Acting on a tip-off, Mohammed Ilyas alias Ilu and Abdul Ali alias Tanvir were nabbed from the Entally area last night while they were trying sell arms, a senior police officer said. One 7-mm pistol loaded with five cartridges and one improvised single-shot firearm along with two cartridges were recovered from their possession, the officer said. The duo were produced in a city court which remanded them to police custody till January 18.

Security forces today recovered two weapons and over 400 rounds of ammunition hidden by militants in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district, police said. Acting on a specific input, a joint team of police and the Army launched a search operation in Jatta Malian forest in Kalakote belt of the district and recovered the arms and ammunition, a senior police officer said. The haul included one AK-47 rifle, one magazine, 400 rounds of AK rifle, one pistol with magazine, one hand grenade and two IED circuits, the officer said, adding that a case was registered in this connection.
The US military says one of its soldiers was wounded when insurgents launched an attack in eastern Afghanistan's remote Achin district of Nangarhar province. Capt. Tom Gresback, a U.S. military spokesman in Afghanistan, told the Associated Press one US service member was wounded and in stable condition in what he would describe only as "active ground engagement." He refused to give further details including whether it involved a local militia. In Afghanistan, local militias are often paid by the US and are partnered with them in operations in remote regions. The incident took place at about 6:30 AM this morning and was led by the EGH police team along with STF 10.
