Militants attacked a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp on Sunday in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district, leaving three troopers injured, authorities said.

At least two CRPF jawans got injured after three terrorists stormed training center in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district in the wee hours of Sunday .The terrorists first lobbed grenades and then began indiscriminate firing and entered the training centre in Awantipora .The militants managed to enter the camp at around 2.10 am."Fidayeen managed to enter Lethpora camp at 2.10am. As per report, two of our men got injured during initial intrusion from J&K Police Commando training area side. Boko Haram fighters opened fire on a group of loggers in a remote village in northeast Nigeria today, killing four people, a survivor and a militia leader said. Gunmen on motorcycles attacked the loggers while they were loading firewood into pickup vans at Maiwa village, 20 kilometres from Maiduguri, the Borno state capital, they said. The gunmen burned three vehicles laden with firewood heading to the volatile city. "Four loggers were shot dead by the Boko Haram gunmen who also burnt three vehicles loaded with firewood," said Ibrahim Liman, a leader of a militia force fighting the insurgents. He said other loggers escaped the assault. The attackers, who rode on six motorcycles, struck at the logging site around 4:40 pm (1540 GMT), said logger Haruna Dahiru. "Sixteen of them (Boko Haram) came on six motorcycles, riding in twos and threes, and opened fire on us without saying a word," he said. "They killed four of our colleagues and set fire to three pickup vans we loaded .
The Karachi police killed five suspected Islamic State (IS) militants in an encounter here on Saturday.According to the Dawn, authorities received a tip-off from an intelligence agency, on an alleged militant hideout in Gharibabad located in the outskirts of the city. The police then conducted a raid and in the ensuing encounter, five militants with links to the dreaded terrorist group have been killed.One of the slain militants was identified as Qari Habibullah alias Abdul Salam Burmi."The killed militant was involved in targeted killings of police, armed forces, members of Shia community and Christian community. He was involved in several terror acts, including armed attacks on workers and women in Sohrab Goth area in 2003," said Ahmed.Separately, five more suspected militants belonging to the banned Lashkar-i-Jhangvi (LJ) were arrested after they planned to assassinate a prominent person belonging to the Shia community.The police have seized a 8mm rifle and 9mm pistol each and two .
Russia's security agency on Saturday detained the mastermind of the St Petersburg explosion that took place on Wednesday.In a press release quoted by TASS, it said, "On December 30, 2017, the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation spotted and detained the organizer and perpetrator, who detonated an improvised explosive device on December 27 in a salesroom of the Perekrestok supermarket in St. Petersburg.The suspect has been handed over to the Russian Investigative Committee."At least 10 people were injured on December 27, when a blast occurred inside a locker of a grocery store at an entertainment complex. The Islamic State (IS) later claimed responsibility for the attack. Russia's President Vladimir Putin described the blast as a 'terrorist act'.Russia on Friday also amended its law in order to crack on terrorist activities in the country and to stringently punish those who finance terrorism or recruit terrorists.

Ukrainian officials say a man has taken people hostage at a post office in Ukraine, though at least five have been released. Police say the man, who said he had firearms and explosives, barricaded himself in the post office in Kharkiv, Ukraine's second largest city, on Saturday. They say he made no immediate demands. Authorities initially said that the man took 11 hostages, including two children, but the information couldn't be confirmed. Police say three women and two children have been released following talks.

A teenager was injured during celebratory firing in a wedding procession in central Delhi's Chandni Mahal area, police said today. The incident occurred last night. Mohd. Nayeem (16) was on the terrace of her aunt's house, watching the procession when Bablu (47), who was part of the marriage party, opened fire. The incident led to commotion and the accused fled the spot taking advantage of it. Nayeem was rushed to a hospital. Doctors said his condition is critical. Local residents protested in the area over the incident. Police and paramilitary personnel were deployed to maintain peace. Bablu was arrested today and the pistol was seized. He did not have a valid licence. The victim's father alleged that Bablu pointed the weapon towards the teenager and opened fire, the police said.
Russia's main domestic security agency said it has arrested a man suspected of setting off an explosion at a supermarket in St Petersburg earlier this week. The blast on Wednesday in a storage area for customers' bags injured 18 people. The Federal Security Service, or FSB, announced the arrest in a statement carried by Russian news agencies, but did not identify the suspect or provide any details about his motive. They did say the suspect organized and carried out the attack on his own. The Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for the explosion, according to SITE, a group that monitors IS statements. President Vladimir Putin has called the explosion a terror attack, adding that he ordered security agencies to kill terror suspects on the spot if they resist arrest.

A village chief believed to have ordered the killing in March of two UN experts in the Democratic Republic of Congo was arrested today, a Congolese military spokesman said. Congolese authorities have from the start said the suspect, Constantin Tshidime Bulabula, was behind the slayings of Swedish-Chilean Zaida Catalan and American Michael Sharp, who were investigating reports of dozens of mass graves in the war-torn Kasai region. Military spokesman Anthony Mualushayi said Tshidime Bulabula, chief of a town just south of where the investigators were slain, was taken into custody some 100 kilometres from home. He has since been taken to Kananga, along with another presumed suspect Tresor Mputu, the spokesman added. Catalan and Sharp reportedly left the city of Kananga on March 12 and their bodies were found 15 days later. Catalan had been decapitated. Two improvised explosive devices (IEDs), allegedly planted by Naxals, weretodayrecoveredby security forces from Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district, police said. The explosives, weighed 10 kg and 15 kg, were unearthed by a joint team of Central Reserve Police Force's 168th battalion and local police from the forests of Basaguda police station limits, Bijapur Additional Superintendent of Police Mohit Garg told PTI. Basaguda is located around 450 kms away from here. When security force were carrying out patrolling in the interiors of Basaguda, they spotted a pressure IEDhidden beneath the earth, around two kms away from the paramilitary force's camp stationed in new Tarrem village, he said. Later, one more IED was found nearby during a search, he said. The bomb disposal squad immediately destroyed the explosives, Garg said. The Maoists plant the IEDs to target security forces during their operations in the area, he added.

Syrian regime forces advanced against jihadists today on the edge of the northwestern province of Idlib, the last outside government control, a monitor and the state news agency said. Government and allied forces backed by Russian warplanes have since Monday been fighting mostly jihadist fighters in an area straddling the border between Idlib and Hama provinces. The fighting, which could signal the start of a major offensive to seize Idlib province from rebels dominated by a former Al-Qaeda affiliate, escalated on Thursday. Today, regime troops advanced, seizing several villages and surrounding areas, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britain-based war monitor, said. At least 11 militants belonging to the Islamic State (IS) group have been killed in the drone strikes conducted by the United States forces in eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan.The Khaama Press quoted the 201st Silab Corps of the Afghan army as saying in a statement on Saturday that the U.S. military carried out the strikes in Deh Bala district, in which three IS terrorists were killed.However, the provincial government media office said the airstrikes were carried out in Haska Mina district, providing the same death toll.Meanwhile, the 201st Silab, in a separate statement, said eight ISIS militants were killed and three others were wounded in a similar airstrike on Thursday.Earlier this week, at least 15 IS militants were killed in a drone strike by the United States forces in the province.
