Most places in the lower hills of Himachal Pradesh reeled under scorching sun and Una in Shiwalik foothills recorded a high of 44.2 degrees Celsius. The mercury breached 44.0 degrees Celsius mark at some places in the lower hills and Bilaspur and Hamirpur recorded a high of 41.4 degrees Celsius and 40.1 degrees Celsius, respectively. Sundernagar recorded a maximum temperature of 38.9 degrees Celsius, followed by Nahan 37.8 degrees Celsius, Bhuntar 36.6 degrees Celsius, Solan 34.8 degrees Celsius, Dharamshala and Palampur 33.2 degrees Celsius, Shimla 28.8 degrees Celsius, Manali 24.8 degrees Celsius, Kalpa 23.0 degrees Celsius and Keylong 18.5 degrees Celsius. Nahan was hottest during the night with a minimum temperature at 26.3 degrees Celsius. Hottest day in Delhi as mercury soars to 45 degrees C

Mercury rose to 45 degrees Celsius in the national capital today, the highest this summer, with people braving heatwave conditions to do their daily chores. No relief from the scorching heat is likely for next two days, according to a Met department official. The city witnessed maximum temperature of 45 degrees Celsius which was five notches above normal for the season. The lowest temperature was 24.5 degrees Celsius, he said. Today's temperature is the highest so far in the last three years. The temperature on May 26, 2015 was 46 degrees Celsius, said the official. "The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 45 degrees Celsius during the next two days with continuing heatwave," the official said. The relative humidity decreased to 27 per cent. Intense heat wave conditions prevails in parts of Raj

Intense heat wave conditions prevailed in parts of Rajasthan today where Churu recorded the highest temperature of 47.5 degrees Celsius. Sriganganagar and Barmer registered a maximum of 46.6 degrees Celsius while Bikaner and Jaisalmer recorded 45.6 degrees Celsius, according to the Meteorological department here. Kota, Jodhpur, Jaipur and Ajmer recorded the day temperatures of 45.3, 44.6, 44.2 and 43.5 degrees Celsius respectively. Heat wave conditions have been prevailing in some parts in the state and weather conditions are likely to remain the same during the next 24 hours.

Kerala likely to get very heavy rains in the next few days

With the South West monsoon set to hit Kerala in a few days, the met department today said the state was likely to receive very heavy rainfall of upto 21 cm in the next three days. The Indian Meterological Department here said that while heavy rainfall of 7-11 cm is expected in the next 24 hours in the state in some places, heavy to very heavy rainfall (12-20 cm) is expected in some places tomorrow and the day after. Kerala is also likely to get extremely heavy rains of 21 cm and above in one or two places on May 28, the bulletn said. Heavy to very heavy rainfall was also likely to occur at one or two places in Lakshadweep till the morning of May 30. Fishermen have been warned against venturing into the sea due to strong winds and squally weather over Kerala-Karnataka coast and lakshadweep area during the next four to five days. The national capital continued to reel under a heat wave as the maximum temperature settled at 43.6 degrees Celsius, three degrees above the season's average. The minimum temperature was recorded at 23.8 degrees Celsius, three notches below the normal, a Meteorological (MeT) department official said. Humidity oscillated between 59 and 10 per cent, the official said. Sriganganagar records 46.5 degC, hottest in Rajasthan

Sriganganagar was the hottest place in Rajasthan, recording a maximum temperature of 46.5 degrees Celsius, a Meteorological (MeT) department official said. The maximum temperature was recorded one to two degrees Celsius higher compared to yesterday in most of the parts of the state, he said. Sriganganagar was the hottest place with 46.5 degrees Celsius, followed by 45.9 in Churu, 45.6 in Bikaner, 44.8 each in Barmer, 44 in Pilani, 43.7 in Kota, 43.5 each in Jodhpur and Ajmer, 43.4 in Jaipur, 42.6 in Dabok, the official said. The maximum temperature was recorded three to four degrees more than the normal temperature at most places in the state, he said. The minimum temperature was recorded between 23.8 and 29.6 degrees Celsius, the official said. The MeT department has predicted heat wave condition at isolated places in next 24 hours.

Heat wave in Haryana & Punjab

Blistering heat wave continued to sweep most parts of Haryana and Punjab today with maximum temperatures hovering between 42 and 45 degrees Celsius at most places. According to a MeT Department official here, Chandigarh's maximum temperature settled close to 42 degrees Celsius, four notches above the normal limit. In Haryana, Hisar, Narnaul and Bhiwani continued to sizzle, with maximum temperatures hovering in the range of 43-45 degrees. Karnal and Ambala too experiencing hot weather conditions. Patiala, Ludhiana, Amritsar, Jalandhar and Bathinda in Punjab also braved the hot weather conditions, with temperatures hovering in the range of 42-44 degrees Celsius. According to the MeT forecast, heat wave conditions are likely to continue at many places in Haryana and at a few places in Punjab over the next two days.

No let up in heat wave conditions in Haryana, Punjab

There was no let up in the heat wave conditions in Haryana and Punjab today, with Hisar once again recording the highest temperature of 45.6 degrees Celsius. Haryana's Hisar district was the hottest place in the two states and its maximum temperature was four degrees above the normal, a report by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. Cyclone Mekunu may cause heavy showers along Maha coast: IMD

Cyclone Mekunu, which hit the Yemeni island of Socotra, causing severe flooding and damage, is likely to trigger heavy showers along the western coast of Maharashtra in the next few days, an IMD official said today. Konkan region of Maharashtra would get a few showers in the next few days. Some isolated places in Konkan will receive rain, but the rest of Maharashtra will have no impact, the official said. "The Mekunu cyclone has moved away from the Indian coast, but it is likely to cause the western coast receive some heavy spells of showers," the official added.
