Phulbani in Kandhamal district today recorded a minimum temperature of 4 degrees Celsius, the lowest in the state today, as the cold wave returned to Odisha, the Met department said. The cold wave condition is likely to continue till February 3, IMD predicted. Apart from Phulbani, nine other places across the state also recorded minimum temperature below 10 degree Celsius, it said, adding, that the places were Daringbadi, Sundergarh, Hirakud, Jharsuguda, Koraput, Angul, Keonjhar, Bolangir and Bhawanipatna. While the minimum temperature in Bhubaneswar was 11.9 degrees Celsius, Cuttack recorded a minimum of 12.4 degrees Celsius, the release said. Dense to very dense fog coupled with cold weather conditions prevailed across Uttar Pradesh, with Lakhimpur Kheri recording the lowest temperature at 3 degrees Celsius. Eastern parts of the state bore the brunt of dense to very dense fog, while weather was more or less dry over other parts of the state, the Met office said today. The day temperature was below normal in Faizabad, Lucknow and Bareilly divisions. The night temperature was below normal in Faizabad, Gorakhpur, Allhabad, Kanpur, Lucknow and Moradabad divisions. The seven-week dry spell ended in Kashmir today with higher reaches of the Valley getting fresh snowfall while rains lashed the plains even as the minimum temperatures rose across the region to breach the freezing point for first time this year. The cold wave returned to Odisha with Phulbani in Kandhamal district being the coldest place in the state as the mercury dipped to 3.5 degree Celsius. Eight other towns in Odisha also recorded minimum temperature below 10 degree Celsius. Phulbani was followed by Daringbadi (4) in Kandhamal district, Sundergarh (7), Hirakud (7.9), Jharsuguda (8.4), Bolangir (8.7) and Angul (9). Icy cold weather persisted today in Sikkim with rainfall and snowfall occurring in isolated areas of the state.
