Mercury levels in Maharashtra will drop over the next two days owing to the 'westerly disturbances', an IMD official said today. "The westerly disturbances have become prominent in North India followed by northerly winds, which will bring down the temperature across coastal and central Maharashtra further," K S Hosalikar, deputy director general (western region) IMD, Mumbai said. "The systems developed over the Caspian Sea have brought more moisture over Afghanistan, South Pakistan and Central parts of India. The phenomenon known as 'westerly disturbances' would bring some showers and snowfall in northern India and mountains respectively," he said. In its forecast, the Met bulletin said that Patna and Gaya may witness fog or mist in the morning with mainly clear sky later while Bhagalpur and Purnea may witness dense fog in the morning. According to the bulletin, Bhagalpur recorded 6.2 degrees Celsius as minimum temperature while Patna and Purnea registered 7.1 and 8.4 degrees Celsius respectively. The foggy weather situation today improved in the state capital as it witnessed sunshine since morning for the first time in the past one month, it said.
