Mizoram CM Zoramthanga on Friday said his government cannot act as it wishes due to financial constraints with funds of Rs 3,500 crore due from the Centre. Addressing the annual conference of the Mizoram Engineer Service Association (MESA) at Berawtlang in Aizawl, Zoramthanga said the Centre was unable to provide funds of Rs 3,500 crore to the state during the last three years due to the pandemic. "As we have been severely impacted by these problems and constraints, we can't do what we want to do and make new recruitment. We need your understanding as we have been impacted by several difficulties which we did not expect," he said. Zoramthanga said his government would make all efforts for the welfare of employees. He said the hardship that has befallen on the state has made him realise the need for self-dependency. Mizoram has been blessed with natural resources and a good climate, he said, urging engineers to give their best to transform the state into a land of self-reliance.

Odisha extends health scheme benefits to children in 5 to 18 yrs age group

Odisha government has extended the benefits of the Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY) health scheme to children aged between 5 and 18 years whose names are not in the list but their parents are enrolled. The health and family welfare department has informed all BSKY empanelled hospitals in this regard through a letter on Tuesday. The letter said, "It has come to the notice of the State Health Assurance Society that in some cases even though a family is covered under National Food Security Act (NFSA)/State Food Security Scheme (SFSS), the names of some child members of a family are left out of the database. This is due to non-availability of vacant slots in that block for addition of new members to the NFSA/SFSS database. As a result, it is not possible on the part of the hospital to register and authenticate such child beneficiaries for cashless treatment under BSKY." The department said in order to overcome the issue, the government has approved BSKY benefits to the child members o

Seeking to fulfill another key pre-poll promise, the Congress government in Karnataka on Wednesday launched the 'Gruha Lakshmi' scheme, offering a monthly assistance of Rs 2,000 to about 1.1 crore women who are heads of their households. Earlier, the CM had said that his government has already implemented three of the five 'guarantees' (pre-poll promises) -- 'Shakti', 'Gruha Jyothi' and 'Annabhagya' -- and noted that 'Gruha Lakshmi' is the fourth one. The government has earmarked Rs 17,500 crore for the 'Gruha Lakshmi' programme in the current financial year. The fifth guaran

The state has so far distributed 22,000 tractors and 22,50 rotavators (rotary tillers) to farmers. Around 4 lakh people have received Rs 1,351 crore under various schemes," Shinde said. Speaking at the event, he took a swipe at Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray by saying his government's work had galvanised some people who ran the administration from home to go "offline" (on the ground) instead of staying "offline". Some people routinely said the state government would fall but it has only got stronger with Ajit Pawar joini
