Bihar, Apr 17 (ANI): Seven Lok Sabha constituencies went to polls in Bihar in the state's second election phase. The security has been stepped up as many of the seats fall in the Maoist belt. People of Bihar are expected to exercise franchise in 11,846 polling stations to decide the fate of 117 candidates in Patna Sahib, Patliputra, Nalanda, Jehanabad, Munger, Ara and Buxar Lok Sabha constituencies. Prominent among the candidates are actor-politician Shatrughan Sinha, former Home Secretary R K Singh, Lalu Prasad's eldest daughter Misa Bharti and her two uncles Ramkripal Yadav and Ranjan Yadav.
Karnataka, Apr 17 (ANI): People queued outside the polling booths in Karnataka on Thursday to cast their votes as the single phase electoral battle began in the state. The state will see Congress and BJP betting high in a fierce close contest. About 85,000 personnel, drawn from the State and the Central Reserve Police Force are deployed to ensure free and fair polls across the state.
Uttar Pradesh, Apr 17 (ANI): Eleven parliamentary constituencies went to the polls on Thursday in Uttar Pradesh, where a bitter contest is on among major contenders to win the maximum number of its 80 Lok Sabha seats. The constituencies which will see balloting today are Moradabad, Nagina, Rampur, Aonla, Pilibhit, Bareilly, Budayun, Kheri, Amroha, Shahjahanpur and Sambhal. Security has been beefed up in order to ensure peaceful polling in the regions.
New Delhi, April 15 (ANI): Leaders from various political parties grabbed the opportunity to react on BJP's PM candidate Narendra Modi's comment that he will send tainted MLAs to jail within one year of his governance. Congress leaders Kapil Sibal and Meem Afzal have directly attacked Modi saying that he should first look for such people in his own party and justify his sources of money being spent on election campaigning. Meanwhile, former SP leader Shahid Siddiqui has stated that the political parties should first stop giving tickets to tainted people. Also, journalist turned politician Ashutosh condemned Modi's statement calling him a liar who makes false promises.
Hazaribagh, April 15 (ANI): Hitting back at Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi over his "toffee" remark, BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Tuesday called him 'childish'. Addressing a rally in Jharkhand's Hazaribagh, Modi said that Rahul Gandhi is obsessed with 'balloons and toffees' like a child. Rahul had dubbed the Gujarat model of development propagated by Modi as a "toffee model", saying it had benefited only one industrialist in the state.
New Delhi, April 15 (ANI): Reacting to Sonia Gandhi's rare television appearance to urge voters to reject "divisive and autocratic" forces that would ruin the country's "Bharatiyata" and "Hindustaniyat", BJP Spokesperson MJ Akbar said that Gandhi must be appealing against 'divisive Congress'. Akbar said that it is Congress which has been using divide and rule policy and have ruined the generation for years. He further said that it is Narendra Modi whom people are supporting because they have got employment on his name.
New Delhi/ Hazaribagh, April 15 (ANI): BJP's PM candidate Narendra Modi on Tuesday took a dig at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, after his eldest daughter Upinder Singh slammed Sanjaya Baru saying his book 'The Accidental Prime Minister - The Making and Unmaking of Manmohan Singh' was a huge betrayal of trust. Modi said that Upinder's remark show that whatever is written in the book is true. While Congress defended its Prime Minister, leaders of other parties attacked him over the matter.
Varanasi, April 15 (ANI): AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday met Varanasi 'Shahar Qazi' Maulana Ghulam Yasin after he arrived in the temple city. Kejriwal said that he met the Muslim cleric in order to put an end to the religious politics wherein political parties divide the religions in order to garner votes for their vested interest. Meanwhile, Maulana Ghulam Yasin said that Kejriwal came to give a message of justice where all religions are considered equal. He further said that they are with Kejriwal and hoped that Kejriwal succeeds in convincing the people of Varanasi.
Sultanpur, April 15 (ANI): BJP leader Varun Gandhi on Tuesday filed his nomination papers from Sultanpur Lok Sabha seat for the 2014 polls, after holding a massive roadshow. However, the road show was cut short as the local administration at Sahganj Chowk said permission was taken only for filing nomination and not for the road show. Gandhi is contesting against Congress' Amita Singh, SP leader Shakeel Ahmed and BSP's Pawan Pandey. Earlier, Priyanka Gandhi had slammed Varun, saying that he had lost his way and needs guidance.

Amethi/ Sultanpur, April 15 (ANI): BJP leader Varun Gandhi and AAP candidate from Amethi Kumar Vishwas are to file their nominations from the 2014 polls from Sultanpur and Amethi respectively. Varun held a roadshow before filing his nomination papers, where flower petals were showered on Gandhi as he sat on an open jeep, weaving its way through the crowds. He is up against Congress's Amita Singh in the constituency. Meanwhile, Kumar Vishwas started his road show on foot from Amethi to the nomination filing office.

New Delhi, April 15 (ANI): Congress President Sonia Gandhi appealed on various TV channels that the current Lok Sabha polls was a fight to protect "the very heart and soul of India" from those who want to divide the people of this country. Without naming either Narendra Modi or the BJP in her telecast, Gandhi appealed to people to defeat "divisive and autocratic" forces which will "destroy" the Indian ethos. The BJP reacted angrily, with spokesperson Prakash Javdekar terming Sonia's speech a show of desperation. He also termed it a farewell speech.

Meanwhile, campaigning for Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) party candidate Amar Singh during a roadshow in Agra, actor-turned-politician and member of RLD Jaya Prada seconded Joshi's remark. In the meantime AAP's Amethi candidate Kumar Vishwas said he would give a tough fight to both main parties and expose their hidden agendas. The ruling Congress Party is fighting a tough election under the leadership of Party Vice-President Rahul Gandhi. The political drama has intensified in India as the mammoth election has kicked off on April 07 and would continue till May 12. Results of the elections are due on May 16.

Chennai, April 13 (ANI): BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Sunday met superstar Rajinikanth at his Chennai residence. BJP leaders had in the past hoped that the party gets some support from the cine star, who has a wide appeal not just in Tamil Nadu but in other states as well. The party has, however, termed it to be a "personal meeting" between the duo. Rajinikanth, while talking to mediapersons, also wished Modi for the ongoing polls, the results of which are due on 16 May.
