Five seats in Assam votes as 2014 polls begin amidst security

Assam, April 07 (ANI): The first of the five stages of parliamentary polls begins on Monday in five constituencies in Assam. The BJP, Trinamool Congress, AIUDF, AGP, AAP, SUCI, CPI (M), AIFB and SP, are contesting in the five seats in Tezpur, Koliabor, Jorhat, Dibrugarh and Lakhimpur in Assam. The electoral fortunes of 51 contestants, including two Union ministers, will be decided in five Lok Sabha seats in Assam when an electorate of 64,41,634, including 31,20,067 women will cast their votes amidst tight security. The polling booths witnessed a large number of first time voters too.

Lok Sabha polls commences in Tripura

Tripura, April 07 (ANI): Polling in one of the two Lok Sabha seats in Tripura commenced on Monday in the first stage of 2014 general elections. Around 1.2 million voters are eligible to vote in the Tripura West constituency, who will decide the fortunes of 13 candidates in the state. The Left has won from West Tripura 11 times since the first Lok Sabha election of 1952 and the Congress four times. CPI-M's Sankar Prasad Datta, Congress's Arunoday Saha, BJP state president Sudhindra Chandra Dasgupta, Trinamool Congress state chief Ratan Chakraborty and Aam Aadmi Party's Salil Saha are among the contenders.

AAP conducts road show in Delhi to garner voters support

New Delhi, April 6 (ANI): Aam Aadmi Party Chief Arvind Kejriwal, on Sunday (April 06) appealed to the masses to vote for his party while conducting a road show from Shadipur metro station to Chandni Chowk in Delhi. Kejriwal was followed by large numbers of supporters and workers as he moved through the streets of the city. Meanwhile, AAP leader Ashish Khetan who also participated in the road show talked about the issues being faced by the country as well as the party leaders. The AAP plans to contest at least 350 of the 543 seats at stake in the Lok Sabha and has promised to field strong candidates against a string of high-ranking politicians, Kejriwal described as corrupt.

BJP reacts to Chidambaram's 'Modi overtaking BJP' remark

New Delhi, April 06 (ANI): BJP leaders Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and Bizay Sonkar reacted to the statement made by Finance Minister P Chidambaram who stated that Modi has taken over BJP. Naqvi hit back at Congress saying that the Congress is questioning BJP as if BJP was in power for the last so many years. He further added that Congress has already accepted its defeat and now just making vague statements. Meanwhile, BJP leader Bizay Sonkar Shastri said that the public had already accepted Narendra Modi as their leader, BJP has only made an official declaration.

700 riots took place under Sonia Gandhi's watch: Narendra Modi

Aligarh, April 06 (ANI): BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, on Sunday said that 700 communal riots took place under Congress chief Sonia Gandhi's watch. Modi also hit out at Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav for his party's government failure to control communal riots. Alleging indirectly that Sonia Gandhi controls SP, Congress and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Modi said they were hand in glove with each other.

Bijnor/ Lucknow, April 06 (ANI): Bijnor administration filed a complaint under IPC153K and 125RP Act for delivering hate speech in Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh. Bijnor CO Rajesh Kumar said that the investigation is still on in the case and that Shah is booked under these sections. LS Polls: Sonia meets Jama Masjid imam, politicos slam

Lucknow /Ranchi / New Delhi, April 02 (ANI): Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi made a strong appeal to minorities ahead of battle of 2014 general election, pitching to help nurture the cause of "secularism" met Muslim delegation led by Delhi's Jama Masjid Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari on Wednesday. Politicians hit at Gandhi's move of meeting the Head cleric of the Jama Masjid ahead of upcoming polls of the world's largest democracy. Attacking Sonia Gandhi, Chief of main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Rajnath Singh said that Congress was practicing communal politics. Meanwhile, former SP leader Shahid Siddiqui, criticized Bukhari saying that he was an opportunist and was not bothered for the welfare of Muslim community. Taking a jibe at Sonia Gandhi, Muslim cleric Maulana Khalid Rashid said it would have been in the good taste if such meetings were arranged by Congress in the past and not just ahead of general elections and take note of problems faced by the Muslim across the country.

Politicos file their nominations to contest 2014 LS Polls

Mumbai /Kanpur /Bhagalpur, April 02 (ANI): Political leaders filed their nomination papers on Wednesday to contest the upcoming 2014 general elections, as the world's largest democracy goes to polls. Congress leader and Union Coal Minister Sri Prakash Jaiswal filed Nomination from Kanpur. Meanwhile BJP leader Shanawaz Hussain also filed nomination to fight election from Bhagalpur. LS Polls: Ramdev hits at Congress over corruption

Chandigarh, April 02 (ANI): Yoga guru Baba Ramdev hit at Congress calling it the most 'corrupt' party embroiled in multiple scams, while beating drums for main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party's win in 2014 general elections on Wednesday in Chandigarh. Ramdev slammed Congress saying that it was responsible for coal scam and various other graft cases in the country. Meanwhile, Ramdev hailed BJP's prime ministerial candidate saying that Narendra Modi was the only leader who could provide a stable and corruption free government and was hopeful that Akali Dal would again emerge as a winner in Punjab.

LS Polls: Arun Jaitley attacks Amarinder Singh

Amritsar, April 02 (ANI): BJP leader Arun Jaitley, who is contesting from Amritsar against Congress candidate Captain Amarinder Singh, strongly attacked Congress and Captain Singh on Wednesday. Jaitley said that during campaigning Captain Singh never speaks over the major issues which are inflation, corruption and various administrative deficiencies. He further slammed Singh saying that when he has negligible legislative attendance in Punjab's Legislature, how people can expect his participation in the Centre.

Rae Bareli, Apr 2 (ANI): Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi, on Wednesday appreciated and agreed with the statement made by his cousin and BJP leader Varun Gandhi. Varun had praised the works done by Rahul in Amethi and said that he would like to replicate the same in his constituency Sultanpur. Rahul further said that he is very happy to see that the works done by him are being appreciated. TMC to fight against BJP, Congress and CPI (M) with equal vigour

Kolkata, April 02 (ANI): Trinamool Congress MP and spokesperson, Derek O'Brian on Wednesday ruled out any possibility of the Trinamool Congress showing any leniency towards the Bharatiya janata Party (BJP), as he said that the party will fight tooth and nail against all three-the BJP, the Congress and the CPI (M) on an equal footing. The TMC leader also strongly asserted that his party will never beg from anyone. Earlier, some newspaper reports suggested that there was a strong possibility that party Chief Mamata Banerjee will agree to extend outside support to a Modi-led government in exchange for a generous financial package aimed primarily at easing West Bengal's debt burden.

Arunachal MP Sanjoy exposes dishonesty of Congress-turned BJP candidate Rijiju

Itanagar, April 02 (ANI): Sitting Arunachal Pradesh Member of Parliament and front running Indian National Congress (INC) Western parliamentary constituency candidate Takam Sanjoy has exposed both the dishonesty of the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its Congress-turned-BJP opponent Kiren Rijiju. He also said that it was wrong on Rijiju's part to state that Khandu, the people's chief minister, had apologized for defeating him fraudulently. This, he said, is another tactic to befool the masses. Pointing out that the Congress believes in value-based politics, Sanjoy urged Rijiju to reply to the queries and to allow people to scrutinise his statement for authenticity. It maybe recalled that on August 24, 2009, Rijiju joined the Congress Party after quitting as the BJP's national secretary. His joining the Congress was approved by AICC president Sonia Gandhi.
