Political candidates in Goa urge voters to exercise their franchise

Panaji, Apr 2 (ANI): In a bid to elevate awareness among people for greater participation in the democratic process, a non-governmental organization in coastal state of Goa organized a direct interaction between people and political candidates from different parties to encourage people to exercise their voting right. One of the organizers, Vijay Kumar Sullakar, said this was being organized keeping in mind the election date of April 12 in the state and it was an awareness drive among the voters.

Lalu Yadav flays out at BJP

Patna, Apr 2 (ANI): Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav on Wednesday lambasted the BJP by saying that the nation needs to be saved from the party. Chief Minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar and Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, who used to be allies, will be conducting separate rallies in Nawada city on Wednesday. Mayawati attacks centre for failing to curb corruption, poverty

Kolkata, April 01 (ANI): Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati lashed out at Congress-led UPA Government over its failure to curb increasing rate of unemployment, poverty and corruption in the country. Addressing a rally in Kolkata, she criticized the central government, saying its schemes to decrease burden on the common man has failed. She also launched an attack on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and said that if Modi comes to power, the country would be 'forever gripped' in riots. Narendra Modi need not apologise to satisfy a fake campaign: Jaitley

New Delhi, April 01 (ANI): BJP Senior leader Arun Jaitley said party's Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi has got a clean chit in Gujarat riots of 2002 and therefore does not need to be apologetic to any fake campaigners who are trying to spoil his image. Jaitley was interacting with foreign journalists in New Delhi as a part of the forthcoming elections' campaign. Jaitley said this is propaganda by Modi's enemies and thus he does not need to apologise. Meanwhile, speaking on India's relations with Pakistan and infiltration attempts along the Line of Control (LoC) last year, Jaitley said that if BJP came to power and any such acts are repeated by Pakistan, dialogue between the neighbours would definitely be affected.

Chidambaram says would have fought against Modi if he knew Hindi, politicos react

New Delhi, April 01 (ANI): Politicos on Tuesday reacted on Finance Minister P Chidambaram's statement that he would have fought against Narendra Modi's 'crony capitalism' from Varanasi constituency if he knew Hindi language. BJP Spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi said that Chidambaram should look at himself before commenting on others and that he knows Tamil language, so he should better contest from Tamil Nadu. LS polls: BJP fields Smriti Irani against Rahul in Amethi, politicos react

New Delhi/Amethi, April 01 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded actor-turned-politician Smriti Irani against Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi from Amethi Lok Sabha constituency for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The party also nominated Supreme Court lawyer Ajay Aggarwal against Sonia Gandhi in Rae Bareli. The decision on Irani and Aggarwal was taken at a meeting of the party's Central Election Committee in New Delhi. Top BJP leaders Narendra Modi, LK Advani, Rajnath Singh and Arun Jaitley were present at the meeting. Meanwhile, reacting over this AAP leader Kumar Vishwas said that Amethi was already fed up of an actor Rahul Gandhi who used to come, wave hands and go, and now an actress has come to cheat people. Congress too slammed the BJP for fielding Smriti against Rahul and said that there is crisis of political leaders in the party.

Sabir Ali's wife protests outside Naqvi's residence, demands apology

New Delhi, Mar 31 (ANI): Sabir Ali's wife, Yasmin Ali on Monday sat on a protest outside BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi's residence in New Delhi. Naqvi had alleged that Sabir Ali was not fit to be inducted in BJP for having links with Indian Mujahideen. The party later cancelled his membership. Yasmin Ali is now demanding an apology from Naqvi. She was later evicted from the place by the Delhi Police.

Congress urges EC to take action against BJP for distorting facts in Masood case

New Delhi/ Ranchi, March 31 (ANI): AICC legal cell Secretary KC Mittal urged the Election Commission to take steps against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for violating the model code of conduct and for distorting facts in Imran Masood's case. A court in Uttar Pradesh remanded Congress leader Imran Masood, to 14-day judicial custody on Saturday after police arrested him for publicly threatening to murder BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi. The FIR accused Masood of violating the election code of conduct. A BJP delegation led by BJP Vice-President Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi approached the Election Commission demanding cancellation of Masood's candidature from Saharanpur.
