British PM Keir Starmer, on his first visit to India since taking office, said the opportunities under the India-UK Free Trade Agreement are ‘unparalleled’ and the deal is a ‘launchpad’ to boost bilateral trade and economic growth. He will be meeting PM Modi tomorrow. PM Modi renewed his ‘Make in India’ pitch across sectors from mobiles to semiconductors, saying the government is speeding up reforms and offering the best investment opportunities. Indian refiners are likely to increase their imports of Russian oil as trade talks with Washington drag on and discounts widen. According to Kpler Ltd, imports are expected to average about 1.7 million barrels per day in October, a 6% increase from September. Susumu Kitagawa, Richard Robson, and Omar M Yaghi have been awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the development of metal-organic frameworks. California has designated Deepavali as an official state holiday, becoming the third US state to formally recognise the Indian festival.
