Vadodara (Gujarat), Apr 09 (ANI): Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, several artists created rangoli in Gujarat's Vadodara on Monday to raise awareness among voters. They created rangoli on streets of Wadi area in Vadodara. The 26 Lok Sabha seats will vote in the third phase on April 23.

'Students-Parent Forum' protest against fee hike in Shimla

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh), Apr 09 (ANI): Under the banner of 'Students-Parent Forum' several parents protested outside the office of the state education department in Himachal Pradesh's Shimla on Monday. They demanded constitution of a regulatory commission for educational institutes, among other demands. They complained against fee hike and other issues related to private schools in Shimla. The protest began from March 10 and will continue further if demands of parents will not be met.

President Kovind announces NIRF, ARIIA 2019 Rankings

34 Naxals surrender in Chhattisgarh's Sukma

Sukma (Chhattisgarh) Apr 09 (ANI): Thirty-four Naxals, including three women surrendered in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district on Monday. They were low rung functionaries of the proscribed outfit and were involved in cases of loot, attempt to murder in areas like Manikonta, Gaganpalli, Kongdam, Mettaguda and Maraiguda villages of Errabor area, about 500 kilometres from here, a police official said. Seventeen of them had permanent arrest warrants against their names. The surrender of such a large group of Naxals is a big success in the region, especially against the backdrop of the ultras Lok Sabha polls boycott call. The region, which is part of Bastar Lok Sabha seat, will go to polls on April 11.

Increasing numbers of individuals with lower education die from liver cancer, reveals study

New Delhi, Apr 09 (ANI): Researchers have established a link between lower education and cancer mortality. The study revealed that rising rates of liver cancer deaths in the United States have largely been confined to individuals who have received less education, especially among men. The research published in the journal of CANCER emphasised the need for enhanced efforts to address the growing burden of liver cancer in lower socioeconomic groups. Liver cancer, which in some cases is caused by infection with the hepatitis C virus (HCV), is the most rapidly raising cause of cancer death in the United States. Previous studies have examined varying trends in liver cancer mortality, but there have been no studies examining recent national trends by individual-level socioeconomic status and/or HCV-infection status.

Google Maps to inform you about traffic jams more quickly

New Delhi, Apr 09 (ANI): Google Maps may be doing a pretty decent job at indicating the amount of congestion on your route. It is, now, reportedly adding a new feature that will tell you about traffic jams more quickly. A new option, called Slowdowns, has been spotted on the app. Using the feature, people can report slowdowns, allowing Google Maps to gather this data more quickly and with increased accuracy, 9 to 5 Google reports. The feature is labelled as either 'congestion' or 'slowdown' depending on your location. The feature is tucked in the new incident reporting button in the Google Maps app.

Students stage protest in J and K's Doda, demand upgradation of school

Doda (JandK) Apr 09 (ANI): The students along with locals travelled about 30 kilometres to reach district headquarters to hold protest against government and school authorities in Jammu and Kashmir's Doda on Sunday. The protesters raised slogans against the school administration, demanding upgradation to higher secondary level. A 9th standard girl student said, "We have been facing grave inconvenience due to lack of Higher education facilities in our village. We have to cover about 25 km through jungle route to reach nearest Higher Secondary School."
