Unnao (Uttar Pradesh), Mar 19 (ANI): Family of Head Constable Shashikant Tiwari of CRPF's 231st battalion mourned on his death, at their residence. He lost his life in an IED blast followed by an exchange of fire with Naxals in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh on March 18. 5 jawans were also injured in the blast.
Panaji (Goa), Mar 19 (ANI): Goa assembly speaker Pramod Sawant was named as the Chief Minister of Goa to succeed the late CM Manohar Parrikar today. Speaking to ANI, Pramod Sawant said, "Party has given me a huge responsibility, I will try my best to carry it out in the best possible manner. Whatever I am today is all due to Manohar Parrikar. It was he who brought me to politics, I became the Speaker and the Chief Minister today, due to him." The Chief Minister's post in Goa went vacant after the four-time Goa CM and former Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar died at the age of 63 at his private residence on March 17.
Thane (Maharashtra), Mar 19 (ANI): After the four-time Goa Chief Minister and former Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar died at the age of 63 at his private residence on March 17, Speaking to ANI, Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Jitendra Awhad said, "People have been speaking on Rafale and corruption since last 1.5 years but no one pointed fingers at Manohar Parrikar. His character speaks for itself that he can't be corrupt. But corruption which had occurred, pained him, didn't let him fight his disease and led to his death." Earlier, he said that Manohar Parrikar was a very educated and well read person. I think after Rafale deal he did not feel right so he decided to go back to Goa. He was sad. I should not say this as he is not here today but I feel he is the first victim of the Rafale Deal. Parrikar died after fighting with pancreatic cancer for over a year. He was cremated with full state honours on Sunday.
Raipur (Chhattisgarh), Mar 19 (ANI): One Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan was killed and five others were injured in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast followed by a gun battle with Naxals in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh on Monday. The CRPF personnel were reportedly out on a road security duty along with the police in Aranpur area of the district when an IED exploded and Naxals opened fire on them. Speaking to ANI on this matter Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations of CRPF AK Singh said, "The injured jawans have been airlifted to Raipur and from preliminary reports all of them look out of danger." CRPF jawans were brought to MMI Narayana Multi Speciality Hospital in Raipur.
Kalahandi (Odisha), Mar 19 (ANI): Around two people died and several others got injured after police lathi-charged protesters at Odisha's Kalahandi on Monday. This incident took place at Vedanta Aluminium Plant which is located at Lanjigarh area in Kalahandi district. The protesters demanded employment for themselves. As per the information from the police officials, the two dead-one protester and one Odisha Industrial Security Force (OISF) personnel succumbed to their injuries laterwards. Thousands of unemployed youths agitated in front of Vedanta Aluminium plant demanding employment. This agitation soon became violent and the OISF personnel resorted to lathi-charge to disperse the agitators. More than 20 persons were injured and admitted to hospitals at Langigarh, Biswanathpur and Bhawanipatana. Due to tension in the area, the district administration of Kalahandi has imposed Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).

After hours of hectic negotiations by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership with the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) and Goa Forward Party (GFP) in the wake of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar's death on March 17, his name was announced for the position of CM on Monday. He took oath along with 11 other ministers. Sudin Dhavalikar of MGP and Vijai Sardesai of GFP also took oath as cabinet ministers today. MGP's Manohar Ajgaonkar, BJP's Mauvin Godinho, Vishwajit Rane, Milind Naik and Nilesh Cabral, Goa Forward Party's Vinod Palyekar and Jayesh Salgaonkar and Independent Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) Rohan Khaunte and Govind Gawade also took oath as state cabinet ministers.

Bengaluru (Karnataka), Mar 19 (ANI): While speaking to ANI on reports that Indira canteen food is unsafe, Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka G Parameshwara said, "I have asked the Commissioner to submit a report to me, we are taking sample from all 198 wards and get it examined from laboratory. Some reports said it is poisonous, it can't be poisonous, we can't be feeding poisonous food." His remarks came after reports surfaced that the food being served in Indira Canteen is "unfit for human consumption."
Pune (Maharashtra), Mar 19 (ANI): A 10-day long Africa-India Joint Field Training Exercise (AFINDEX-19) between the Indian Army and 16 African nations started in Pune from Monday. This exercise will be held from March 18-March 27 at Foreign Training Node at Aundh Military Station and College of Military Engg, Kirkee. As many as 10 personnel, each from the participating nations from the African continent and personnel of Maratha Light Infantry of Indian Army, participated in the joint exercise which will be conducted at two locations in Pune's Foreign Training Node at Aundh Military Station and College of Military Engineering in Kirkee.The aim of the exercise is to train the participating contingents in Humanitarian Mine Assistance (HMA) and Peace Keeping Operations (PKO) under the United Nations Charter. Muzaffarpur (Bihar), Mar 19 (ANI): A Rapid Action Force (RAF) jawan was shot dead by bike-borne man at Bihar's Muzaffarpur today. This incident took place at Kazi Mohammadpur Thana area in Muzaffarpur. Speaking to ANI, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Muzaffarpur Manoj Kumar said, "He was returning home. There was traffic, he tried to clear it and was shot. He died on way to hospital. We will examine CCTV footage and make arrests soon."

Amroha (UP), Mar 18 (ANI): An artist from Amroha, Mohammad Zuhaib, paid his last respects to late Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar by making a charcoal portrait. He wrote on the wall 'Surgical Strike Hero'. Manohar Parrikar breathed his last on Sunday evening at the age of 63. Mohammad Zuhaib said, "I made 4-feet tall portrait to give my last tributes to CM Parrikar and I wrote 'Surgical Strike Hero' on the wall".
Vrindavan (Uttar Pradesh), Mar 18 (ANI): Hundreds of widows on Monday paid tributes to Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and prayed for his departed soul in the holy town of Vrindavan in Uttar Pradesh. They lit candles and sang devotional songs for the late chief minister. Parrikar breathed his last on Sunday evening at his residence after suffering from pancreatic ailment. The 63-year-old leader's last rites will be performed today at Miramar beach in Goa.

Although it wasn't unprecedented, Pakistan's claims of providing equal rights to the people of occupied Kashmir fell flat with these developments.
