Cyclone Nivar is gradually intensifying, could cause damage to crops: IMD DGM

New Delhi, Nov 25 (ANI): As per India Meteorological Department (IMD), Cyclone Nivar is likely to cross between Mamallapuram (Mahabalipuram) and Karaikal during midnight on November 25 and early hours of November 26. Speaking to ANI, Director General of Meteorology (DGM) of India Meteorological Department, Dr Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said, "Cyclone Nivar is gradually intensifying. It could cause structural damage, uprooting of trees, damage to thatched/tin houses, and damage to banana and paddy crops." "There will be strong winds and heavy rain. The most impact will be in Puducherry and Karaikal," he added.

Watch: RJD MLAs create ruckus in Bihar Assembly ahead of Speaker's election

Patna (Bihar), Nov 25 (ANI): Ahead of the voting for the post of Speaker post, RJD MLAs created ruckus in Bihar Vidhan Sabha on November 25. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav showed rulebook to pro-tem Speaker Jitan Ram Manjhi. During the ruckus, pro-tem Speaker Manjhi said, "Those who are from other House aren't voting for Speaker election, but no problem in their presence." Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Education Minister Ashok Choudhary were present in the Assembly. The NDA has unanimously declared BJP MLA Vijay Kumar Sinha's name as the candidate while Mahagathbandhan has declared RJD MLA Awadh Bihari Choudhary as its candidate for the Speaker post. Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Vijay Sinha elected as the Speaker of Bihar Assembly. The winter session of the 243-member Bihar Assembly is underway until November 27.

Watch: Tamil Nadu, Puducherry gear up to take on Cyclone Nivar 'fury'

Cyclone Nivar is expected to intensify into a 'very severe cyclonic storm' and cross Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts between Karaikal and Mamallapuram on the late evening of November 25, IMD Director General Mrutunjay Mohapatra said. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had initially predicted that Cyclone Nivar was likely to intensify into a 'severe cyclonic storm' but has now estimated that it will intensify further. Nivar is the second cyclone in the Bay of Bengal this year. In May, Cyclone Amphan had developed into a 'super cyclonic storm'.

Bengaluru, Nov 24 (ANI): India test-fired land attack version of BrahMos supersonic cruise missile on Nov 24 from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands territory. The target of the missile was on another island there. The mission had successfully hit its target. The test was conducted by the Indian Army which has many regiments of the DRDO-developed missile system. The strike range of BrahMos missile has now been enhanced to over 400 km.

Raghuram Rajan, Acharya slam RBI panel proposal: Are concerns warranted?

The RBI working group's proposal to allow corporate houses to set up banks is a "bombshell" and at this juncture, it is more important to stick to the tried and tested limits on involvement of business houses in the banking sector, according to an article jointly written by former RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan and ex-Deputy Governor Viral Acharya. They also said that the proposal is "best left on the shelf". Last week, an Internal Working Group (IWG) set up by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) made various recommendations, including that a large corporate may be permitted to promote banks only after necessary amendments to the Banking Regulation Act.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, in a statement on Monday, said the Kerala Police Act Amendment ordinance will no longer be implemented. He said a detailed discussion will be held in the Assembly on it after which the next course of action will be decided, duly considering the opinions coming up from all quarters. The Kerala cabinet had decided last month to give more teeth to the Police Act by recommending the addition of section 118-A. It stipulates a jail term of up to five years or a fine of up to Rs 10,000 or both for those who produce, publish or disseminate content through any means of communication with an intention to intimidate, insult or defame any person through social media.

Head constable Seema Dhaka is the first personnel of the Delhi Police who has been granted an out-of-turn promotion for tracing 76 missing children. Dhaka is currently posted at Samaypur Badli police station of outer-north district. On August 7, Delhi Police Commissioner S N Shrivastava had announced the grant of additional incentives, including an out-of-turn promotion, for any constable or head constable who rescues 50 or more missing children below the age of 14 years within a period of 12 months. At least 15 of the children should be aged less than eight years.

Complete curfew starts in Ahmedabad till Nov 23

Ahmedabad (Gujarat), Nov 21 (ANI): Police checked vehicles in Ahmedabad as complete curfew imposed in the city from November 20 from 9 pm onwards. The complete curfew will continue till 6 am of November 23. Panic buying to hoard essential supplies was also witnessed in the city. People travelling to and from other districts were seen in rush to cross the borders before the curfew. During this period, only shops selling milk and medicines will be permitted to remain open in Ahmedabad. Meanwhile, the Gujarat government also decided to postpone the reopening of schools and colleges in the state.

Prayagraj DM reaches Amilia village after information of deaths due to liquor consumption

Prayagraj (UP), Nov 21 (ANI): At least four people died after consuming illicit liquor in Amilia village of Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Five to six people have been admitted to hospital for treatment. Team of officials has reached Amilia village under Phulpur police station limits after receiving information about the deaths. Homeless take refuge at Delhi's night shelters as temperature dips

New Delhi, Nov 21 (ANI): Homeless people took refuge at a night shelter in Sarai Kale Khan on night of November 21 as temperature dipped in the national capital. Anas, who stays at a night shelter said, "I've come to Delhi in search of a job. We've been provided with masks and sanitizers. We take all the COVID-19 related precautions." The national capital recorded its coldest morning this season on November 19. Parts of northern India are also witnessing dip in minimum temperatures. BSF organises COVID awareness camp in Srinagar
