Alcohol consumption during pregnancy leads to poor cognitive function of children: Study

New Delhi, Jan 30 (ANI): According to a new study conducted by researchers, consuming alcohol during pregnancy might lead to the poorer cognitive functioning of children. The study based on 23 published reviews was conducted by the researchers from the University of Bristol and was published in the International Journal of Epidemiology. The researchers further found out evidence that drinking during pregnancy could also lead to lower birth weight reinforcing the UK Chief Medical Officers' #DRYMESTER guidelines which suggest abstaining from alcohol consumption during all trimesters. Approach based on genetic-markers known as ''Mendelian randomization' was also used. Research on this topic has taken place through the 'observational' studies where participants already exposed to a risk factor and researchers do not try to change who is or isn't exposed. While the review was comprehensive it was limited in its ability to establish how much alcohol leads to these negative outcomes. However,

Basant Panchami: 'Sufi Basant' festival celebrated at Hazrat Nizamuddin Aulia

New Delhi, Jan 30 (ANI): 'Sufi Basant' festival was celebrated in the holy shrine of Saint Hazrat Nizamuddin Aulia on January 29. It is celebrated in five major Dargahs of Delhi since the 18th century and accounts of the same have been mentioned in a book - 'Muraqqa-e-Delhi'. Festival of Basant Panchami is being celebrated across India which marks the onset of spring and it is celebrated on fifth day of Magha month of Hindu calendar. Goddess Saraswati - the Goddess of knowledge, arts and music - is worshipped on this occasion. Qawwals gathered together in one of the lanes in the basti and sang qawwalis. Basant festival is the only time of the year when singing qawwali is allowed inside the shrine which is otherwise done outside in the courtyard. Devotees in yellow turbans offered yellow coloured sacred chaadar at the shrine. Various cultural ceremonies are organised on this day.

This Chandigarh girl, who paints with toes, never let disability become hurdle in life

Chandigarh, Jan 30 (ANI): A Chandigarh girl can paint perfectly using her toes like any other person paint while using their hands. Rehnuma Rani was born with one arm and her other arm works partially. Never in her life journey, had she let her disability become a hurdle. Rehnuma is a student of 12th standard and perfectly makes paintings using her toes and also encourages others to do painting using their feet. She has made various paintings, sketches and participated in several exhibitions. Rehnuma has also been honoured by Governor of Haryana and other eminent personalities for her art work. Her hobby inspired her to take fine art as subject in 12th standard. Rehnuma is a student of Government Model Senior Secondary School at Chandigarh's Sector 8 and started drawing since she was in fifth standard. Her parents and fine arts teacher always support her in following her hobby.

Ganga Yatra: CM Yogi performs 'aarti' on bank of river Ganga in Prayagraj

Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh), Jan 30 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath performed 'aarti' on the bank of river Ganga in Prayagraj on January 29. Samsung launches world's first 5G tablet

New Delhi, Jan 30 (ANI): Samsung on January 29 unveiled the Galaxy Tab S6 5G, world's first tablet to support 5G, for its home market. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 5G features a 10.5-inch super OLED display, AKG acoustics and quad speakers with Dolby Atmos, enabling real-time 4K broadcast streaming, and AR content support, the official release notes. It comes with the improved Smart S Pen. Samsung is currently offering the Galaxy Tab S6 5G in Mountain Gray colour with 128 GB internal storage. It is priced at around USD 850 but is exclusive to the Korean market as of now. It will be available from January 30th.

Grocery shop owner heckled by 3 goons in Madurai

Madurai (TN), Jan 30 (ANI): Three miscreants heckled a grocery shop owner in Tamil Nadu's Madurai on January 28. They hurled kerosene bomb after the shop owner who refused to give them money. The incident was captured in a CCTV camera. 43-year-old shop owner Ganeshan has been admitted at Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai. Mishappening occurred at Teppakulam area of Madurai. The investigation by city police is underway in the case.

Hawan performed for 'sound wisdom' of Shaheen Bagh protesters at Gorakhpur

Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh), Jan 30 (ANI): A Hawan was performed for the sound wisdom and virtue of Shaheen Bagh protesters in Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur on January 29. 'Maa Basmati Sewa Sansthan' organized this puja with the intention that almighty must show the protestors right direction. Hawan was performed in Jharna Tola Kura Ghat area of Gorakhpur. The Shaheen Bagh protest is an ongoing 24/7 sit-in protest led by Muslim women. It began with the passage of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in both houses of Parliament. The protest is ongoing since December 15, 2019 against CAA, NRC and NPR.

Govt increases limit on termination of pregnancy from 20 to 24 weeks: Prakash Javadekar

New Delhi, Jan 29 (ANI): In a significant move to ensure reproductive rights to women, government increased limit on termination of pregnancy from 20 to 24 weeks. This move was aimed at discouraging informal termination of pregnancies and reducing the maternal mortality rate. Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar said, "This step will be called a progressive decision." Union Cabinet has approved the Medical Termination of Pregnancy (Amendment) Bill, 2020 to amend the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, 1971. The Bill will be introduced in the upcoming session of Parliament.

CAA protests: 2 dead in WB's Murshidabad, 15 injured in Bihar's Sitamarhi

Murshidabad (West Bengal), Sitamarhi (Bihar), Jan 29 (ANI): Citizenship Amendment Act and National Register of Citizens protests continued to hit India. At least two people died in WB's Murshidabad after clash broke out between supporters of pro and anti-CAA protests. The two deceased have been identified as Anirudh Biswas and Maqbool Sheikh. The protest took place on January 28. On the other hand, 15 people got injured in Bihar's Sitamarhi between two groups- one protesting against CAA and NRC and the other supporting it. Police personnel have been deployed in the area to control the situation.

Delhi Police registers FIR against man who flashed gun at Shaheen Bagh

New Delhi, Jan 29 (ANI): Delhi Police registered FIR and started an investigation on gun brandishing incident that took place at Shaheen Bagh on January 28. South East District (Delhi) DCP Chinmay Biswal said, "We've registered FIR and started an investigation. The video is being investigated, visuals are being studied. Owner of the pistol was questioned, the pistol was found to be licensed." The FIR was registered under IPC section 336 (Act endangering life or personal safety of others), section 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) and the Arms Act.
