Kolkata (WB), Jan 11 (ANI): Amid tensions over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens (NRC) and National Population Register (NPR) across nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Kolkata on January 11. Several left wing groups and other political outfits protested against PM Narendra Modi in Kolkata today. They showed black flag as a mark of protest against CAA, NRC and NPR issue. PM will be on a two-day official visit and will take part in various programmes including 150th anniversary celebrations of Kolkata Port Trust. He also met West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata.
New Delhi, Jan 11 (ANI): Former Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) vice chancellor, Sudhir Kumar Sopory on Saturday said that the situation of violence that occurred in JNU is because of 'mistrust' and 'lack of communication' with the administration. He said, "I have had an experience of working at JNU for over 25 years. The recent incidents of violence at the campus are very disheartening. Such situations occur because of mistrust and it's the lack of communication that decreases trust level." "I think the administration should take the initiative to talk to students. When I was there, my doors were always open. I always had a diary of the demands of the students. For demands which could be fulfilled, measures were taken accordingly," he further added. Several students of the JNU, including JNUSU president Aishe Ghosh, were injured and were taken to the AIIMS Trauma Centre after a masked mob attacked them inside campus.
New Delhi, Jan 11 (ANI): Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) held students' march denouncing Left violence and in support of Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), at Arts faculty of Delhi University. Several demonstrators participated in the rally. Nationwide protests have intensified with the new Citizenship Act. CAA gives Indian citizenship to non-Muslim immigrants from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.

Mumbai, Jan 11 (ANI): While addressing a press conference in Mumbai on January 11, Nobel laureate Abhijit Banerjee expressed his concern over Centre's reported plan to cut school education budget by Rs 3,000 crore and called it 'drop in the ocean'. "The federal government provides very little of the funding in education. Education is a state subject and it is mostly funded by state. Cutting Rs 3,000 cr is like a drop in the ocean," said the Nobel Laureate.
Vadodara (Gujarat), Jan 11 (ANI): In a blast, at least 5 people died and 15 got injured in Gujarat's Vadodara on Jan 11. The mishap took place in AIMS Industrial Private Limited. New Delhi, Jan 11 (ANI): While addressing at the Indian Army annual briefing in the national capital on Jan 11, Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane talked on if PoK can be part of India as stated by political leadership stated that entire J-K is part of India, and if orders are given to take back PoK, appropriate actions will be taken. "There is a parliamentary resolution that entire J-K is part of India. If Parliament wants it, then, that area (PoK) also should belong to us. When we get orders to that effect, we'll take appropriate action," said Army Chief.

New Delhi, Jan 11 (ANI): Delhi High Court directed filmmakers of 'Chhapaak' to give credit to lawyer Aparna Bhat who represented acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal in her legal battle on Jan 11. The court also restrained from releasing of film 'Chhapaak' without giving credit to lawyer Aparna Bhat. The restraint will be effective from Jan 15 for multiplexes and live streaming and for others from Jan 17. Speaking on it, Lawyer Aparna Bhat said, "I am happy with the Court's order. It was a waste of time that when I should be fighting for other, I had to fight for myself."

Earlier, USA killed Iranian general Qasem Soleimani in a drone attack orders of US President Donald Trump. In retaliation to the incident, Iran fired more than a dozen missiles at US forces in Iraq. Iran claimed that around 80 'American terrorists' were killed in the missile attack, however, in a press conference, Trump confirmed no causalities in the attack by Iran and tweeted 'All is well'.
Kannauj (UP), Jan 11 (ANI): People injured in UP's Kannauj bus accident were admitted to a hospital. A bus carrying over 40 passengers collided with a truck and caught fire on January 10. The collision took place on GT Road. Speaking to ANI, an injured passenger said, "The bus collided with the truck and immediately caused fire, several passengers were stuck in the bus."
