Bengaluru (Karnataka), Dec 26 (ANI): A group of people protested at Bengaluru's Town Hall on December 26 against the superstitious beliefs followed during solar eclipses. Activist N Murthy said, "Superstitions like don't go outside, don't eat or drink during the eclipse are wrong. Scientists only say don't view it with naked eye." People across the world witnessed the last solar eclipse of 2019. A solar eclipse occurs, when the moon comes in between the earth and the sun and when all the three bodies are aligned.

Mamata Banerjee continues fight against CAA, leads another protest march in Kolkata

Kolkata, Dec 26 (ANI): Continuing her fight against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on December 26 led another protest march in Kolkata against the new citizenship law. Hundreds of anti-CAA protestors along with TMC leaders and workers joined the party chief in her bid to up the ante against the central government. While addressing the rally, Banerjee said she will tell all the students to continue their protest against CAA for their democratic rights in a democratic way.

'Tukde tukde gang' responsible for violence in Delhi, should be punished: Amit Shah

New Delhi, Dec 26 (ANI): Union Home Minister Amit Shah attended the foundation stone laying ceremony of integrated development of East Delhi Hub on December 26. Addressing the gathering during the event, Shah said that people of Delhi should punish the "tukde tukde gang" which is "responsible" for violence in Delhi. He said, "When Citizenship Amendment Act was being discussed in Parliament, nobody was willing to discuss it. They were discussing irrelevant things. Once they stepped out of Parliament, they started spreading confusion and disturbed Delhi."

Armed robbers loot material worth lakhs from transformer at power station in Shamli

Shamli (Uttar Pradesh), Dec 26 (ANI): Unidentified armed robbers dismantled a transformer installed at a power station in UP's Shamli and looted valuable material worth an estimated Rs 8 lakh. The armed robbers arrived at the Power Station on a mini truck and held hostage by the staff which was on routine duty. An investigation into the matter has been initiated.

Schools shut for 2 days due to extreme cold weather: Ghaziabad DM

Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh), Dec 26 (ANI): Temperature has dropped down in Ghaziabad due to heavy snowfall in parts of North India. Keeping winters in mind, Ghaziabad Administration issued a notice to shut all the schools for two days. Speaking on it, District Magistrate of Ghaziabad said, "The cold is increasing. It is excruciating for children to go schools in winters and it is not good for their health as well. That's why, we took decision to close all the schools for two days (Dec 27-Dec 28). After that it is Sunday so, kids will get a total of three-day off. If the weather is good from Monday and the forecast is right then the schools will re-open."

CAA protests row: Making crowds carry out arson, violence not leadership, says Army Chief

New Delhi, Dec 26 (ANI): Army Chief General Bipin Rawat in New Delhi condemned the violence that is caused by the protests against the amendment Citizenship act and asserted that leaders are not those who lead people in inappropriate direction. "Leaders are not those who lead people in inappropriate direction. As we are witnessing in large number of universities and colleges, students the way they are leading masses and crowds to carry out arson and violence in cities and towns. This is not leadership,"said Army Chief.

Tibetan Buddhist monks organise prayers for world peace

Shimla (HP), Dec 26 (ANI): Tibetan Buddhists in Shimla organised prayers for world peace, to dispel the evils of the previous year, and bring good luck for the coming year. Tibetans-in-exile organise the annual prayers in the final month according to the Tibetan lunar calendar. The festival is called Gutor in Tibetan Buddhism. Buddhists monks offered prayers and performed dances. After the prayers and Lama dance, the monks threw objects signifying bad omen into the fire.

Kamal Nath should read Constitution, states are bound to implement CAA: Kailash Vijayvargiya

Indore (Madhya Pradesh), Dec 26 (ANI): BJP national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya has slammed Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Kamal Nath for refusing to implement the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in the state and said that he should read the Constitution. He also asserted that all the states are bound to implement the new citizenship law. "He (Kamal Nath) should read the Constitution of the country. Once a bill is passed by the Parliament and becomes an Act, all the states are bound to implement it under Article 252 of the Constitution," Vijayvargiya told ANI. Part XI of the Constitution of India, which includes Article 245 to Article 263, dictates the relationship between the union government and the state governments.
