Wadala man thrashed, head tonsured over alleged comment against CM Thackeray

Mumbai, Dec 24 (ANI): A resident of Wadala was allegedly thrashed by Shiv Sena workers for 'objectionable' social media comment against Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. He said, "I posted that CM's comparison of Jamia Millia incident with Jallianwala Bagh was wrong. After that 25-30 people thrashed me and tonsured my head." Mumbai Police said Hiramani Vijendra Tiwari (victim) had posted objectionable comments against CM on social media, and was later thrashed by Shiv Sena workers, his head was also tonsured. Both parties have registered cases against each other under relevant sections.

'Mario Kart Tour' multiplayer mode is now available for Gold Pass holders

New Delhi, Dec 24 (ANI): Nintendo's 'Mario Kart Tour' is finally offering the multiplayer mode, however, only Gold Pass subscribers can access it in beta. The game, released in September for iOS and Android, was a single-player experience. However, the company promised to offer a real-time multiplayer mode for Gold Pass subscribers, Engadget notes. The Gold Pass costs USD 4.99 per month. The multiplayer beta test will run until December 26.

Longer exposure to obesity linked with increased risk of type 2 diabetes: Study

New Delhi, Dec 24 (ANI): According to new research, cumulative exposure to obesity and earlier development of obesity could be linked to increased risk of type 2 diabetes (T2D). The study was published in the journal Diabetologia (the journal of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes [EASD]). In this study, the authors used data from the Australian Longitudinal Study on Women's Health (ALSWH) to identify body mass index (BMI) trajectories over the early adult life course. Higher initial BMI was associated with an increased risk of diabetes. They conclude their work demonstrates "the importance of preventing or delaying the onset of obesity and reducing cumulative exposure to obesity to substantially lower the risk of developing diabetes.

'A new chapter for Jharkhand will begin': Hemant Soren as JMM surges in election trends

Ranchi (Jharkhand), Dec 23 (ANI): Jharkhand Mukti Morcha's (JMM) chief Hemant Soren thanked the people of Jharkhand as his party was leading on 28 seats in the 81-member assembly in the state, adding that a new chapter will begin for the state from today. "Today a new chapter will begin for this state. I want to assure everyone that their hopes will not be broken irrespective of their caste, creed, religion and profession," Soren told reporters in Ranchi after JMM-Congress-RJD alliance was looking set to form the government as the trio was leading on around 45 seats, above the 41-seat majority mark. Soren was leading from Barhait and Dumka assembly constituency. As per the Election Commission trends, the BJP was leading on 24 seats and Congress-JMM-RJD alliance on more than 45 seats. 2 terrorists nabbed, LeT terror module busted: J-K DGP

Harshest winter phase 'Chillai-Kalan' begins in Kashmir following heavy snowfall

Srinagar, Dec 23 (ANI): A 40-day long period of extreme cold 'Chillai-Kalan' began in Kashmir on December 21. It will continue till January 31 followed by Chillai-Khurd and Chillai-Bachha. A 20-day long Chillai-Khurd (small cold) starts from January 31 to February 19 and a 10-day long Chillai-Bachha (baby cold) occurs between February 20 to March 02. As per India Meteorological Department (IMD), the period mostly remains wet as the upper part of the Valley received heavy snowfall and the maximum temperature drops considerably. During this period, water bodies like lakes, river and stream get frozen with a thick layer of sheets. The maximum and minimum temperature at isolated places over Jammu and Kashmir was recorded between -1.6C and -3.0C below normal, the weather agency said. In Srinagar, minimum temperature was 0 degree Celsius, Pahalgam -7. In Gulmarg, the temperature was below - 9 Degree Celsius, IMD said.
