New Delhi, Dec 17 (ANI): DCP of South-East Delhi, Chinmoy Biswal told that total 10 people have been arrested till now in connection with Jamia Millia Islamia violence during protest that took place on December 15. During media brief, he told, "Total 10 people have been arrested till now, three of them have criminal background. No student has been arrested by Delhi Police." Speaking on the cartridges found, he said, "It is a subject of investigation. We are looking into it."
New Delhi, Dec 17 (ANI): Home Minister Amit Shah hit out Delhi government over regularisation of over 1700 unauthorised colonies in the capital. He said the scheme got five years late because of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's government. Delhi Development Authority (DDA) opened portal on illegal colonies to apply for ownership right on December 16. Legislative Assembly elections will be held in Delhi in February 2020 to elect 70 members of the Delhi Legislative Assembly. The term of current assembly elected in 2015, will expire on 22 February 2020.
New Delhi, Dec 17 (ANI): Clashes broke out between police and protesters in Jafrabad area of the national capital on December 17 during demonstration over new citizenship law. Traffic movement was closed on 66 feet road from Seelampur to Jafrabad as stone pelting was reported from the protest site. In view of the clash, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced that entry and exit gates of Welcome, Jafrabad and Maujpur-Babarpur, Seelampur and Gokulpuri are closed. Trains won't be halting at these stations. Protests emerged at multiple locations across the country after Citizenship Amendment Bill was passed by Parliament and got President's assent. Students of Jamia Millia Islamia, Aligarh Muslim University and other institutions got into violent clashes with police during protest at their campuses.
New Delhi, Dec 17 (ANI): Union Home Minister Amit Shah said entire opposition is misleading the people of country on Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019. "I reiterate that there is no question of taking away citizenship of any person from any minority community. There is no such provision in the bill, said Amit Shah in New Delhi. The Citizenship Act seeks to amend the definition of illegal immigrant for Hindu, Sikh, Parsi, Buddhist and Christian immigrants from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh, who lived in India without documentation till December 2014.
New Delhi, Dec 17 (ANI): After protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act turned violent in several parts in East Delhi's Seelampur and Zafarabad, clash broke out between protestors and police. "Around 3000 - 4000 people have gathered in Seelampur in the protest. Some of them pelted stones and indulged in arson injuring police personnel. Only tear gas shells used," said Alok Kumar Joint CP of Eastern Range. CP further added, "We are in touch of people of 'Aman committee'."
Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), Dec 17 (ANI): Ahead of the second ODI match between India and West Indies, while addressing a press conference in Visakhapatnam on December 17, the right-hand Windies batsman Shai Diego Hope spoke on his performance in the coming games. Chennai, Dec 17 (ANI): Actor-turned-politician and Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) chief Kamal Haasan took a stand for students of Jamia and said that politics is omnipresent and questions should be asked in a democracy and if these questions are stifled, then democracy is in ICU. "You don't have to be only a student to ask question, I am a student in my field, pragmatism tells me that I have to continue learning and I am a student and I will voice for them," said Haasan.
Sahibganj (Jharkhand), Dec 17 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a public rally in Jharkhand's Sahibganj on Dec 17 where he challenged Congress and its allies to announce that they will bring back Article 370 in Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh. He said, "I challenge Congress and their allies if they have the guts they should openly declare that they will give Indian citizenship to every Pakistani citizen, and that they will bring back Article 370 in Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh."
Nagpur (Maharashtra), Dec 17 (ANI): On reports of scuffle between BJP and Shiv Sena MLAs in Maharashtra Assembly, Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad said that his party wants the five-day assembly session to run smoothly but BJP is creating ruckus. Speaking to media persons about the incident, Gaikwad said, "We were in well of the House. There was ruckus. I pulled down banner from their (BJP MLAs) hands. They're creating ruckus for two days. If they won't let us work, how will House function? We want the five-day assembly session to run smoothly but opposition is creating problem. Jayant Patil was not allowed to speak." Although, he further said, "Whatever happened inside the assembly will not be carried outside."

SC also said that concerned HCs will be at liberty to appoint former judges of SC or HC for purpose of inquiry after hearing Centre and respective States. Lawyer Mehmood Pracha said, "Most important thing is that Supreme Court said that they are concerned of all the situations. SC even said that concerned High Courts will be at liberty to appoint former judges of SC or HC for the purpose of inquiry after hearing centre and the respective states."

In an interaction with ANI, Naqvi said, "People who have been defeated by 'jantantra' are finding support of 'gundatantra'. They don't believe in 'Satyamev Jayate' but are taking the support of 'Jhoothmev Jayate'. We have no problem with students and we can't question their commitment to the nation. There are political leaders who are misleading them for their political benefits and these are those people who have been defeated by 'jantantra'. They are trying to damage the democracy and it won't happen in any which way. I would request the students to understand the truth."
Nagpur (Maharashtra), Dec 17 (ANI): Former Maharashtra chief minister and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the state assembly, Devendra Fadnavis, on December 17 said Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has betrayed the farmers, as he alleged that the latter will not release Rs 23,000 crore which are required as compensation to farmers who faced the brunt of unseasonal rains. "CM had announced that they'll provide Rs 25,000/hectare to farmers suffering due to untimely rainfall. But yesterday when the supplementary demands came, they had allotted only Rs 750 crore. If they have to give Rs 25,000/hectare then they should have allotted Rs 23,000 crore. The manner in which this govt is being run, in its first stage itself, it has betrayed the farmers of Maharashtra," Fadnavis told media in Nagpur.
