Chennai (Tamil Nadu), Jun 24 (ANI): Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) held protest in Chepauk area of Chennai. The protest is being staged against the Tamil Nadu government over acute water crisis in the city. DMK president MK Stalin led the demonstration in which he was seen carrying a pot in his hands. The protesters waved DMK flags and held bright plastic pots to make a vivid display of the protest. The protest took place in the wake of the scarce water supply in the southern state of Tamil Nadu. This water crisis seems to be a pressuring issue in the neighboring state as well.

Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh (ANI) June 24, 2019: Located on the west bank of Ganga River, Kanpur is a densely populated city famous for its leather industries. The city produces an estimated 450 million liters of daily municipal sewage and industrial effluent whose major portion was flowing directly into the holy river until recently. However, with the launch of the Namami Gange Programme that aims to clean and rejuvenate Ganga, the picture changed quickly as 13 out of 16 major drains in Kanpur have been completely tapped and the sewage and industrial effluent has been diverted to Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETPs). In November 2018, over a century-old Sisamau drain, which produces over 140 MLD of sewage, was completely stopped from discharging sewage into the Ganga. This was the biggest drain-tapping initiative untaken at a cost of over Rs. 60 crore. Barmer (Rajasthan), Jun 24 (ANI): At least 14 people died on Sunday after 'pandaal' collapsed in Rajasthan's Barmer. Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare and Barmer Member of Parliament (MP) Kailash Choudhary visited the hospital in Barmer today. He met the injured who are currently receiving medical treatment in the hospital. While speaking to ANI, Kailash Chaudhary said, "The incident is painful. I offer my condolences to the departed souls and their family members. I am in contact with the administration. I have spoken to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. The compensation announced by CM has reached the affected." Meanwhile, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has announced compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the next of the kin of those who lost their lives and Rs 2 lakh to the injured.

Seraikela-Kharsawan (Jharkhand), Jun 24 (ANI): A 22-year-old man died on Sunday after he was beaten up by locals and later arrested on suspicion of theft in Jharkhand's Saraikela-Kharsawan district. The deceased has been identified as Tabrej. He was admitted to Sadar hospital yesterday morning and then referred to Tata Main Hospital, Jamshedpur. Tabrej's family has, however, alleged that the attack was communal and that he was made to chant 'Jai Shri Ram' and 'Jai Hanuman'. While speaking to ANI, Tabrej's relative Maqsood Alam said, "Some locals thrashed Tabrej and later gave him over to the police. He was suspected of theft but it was a communal attack. He was beaten because he had a Muslim name. They made him chant 'Jai Shri Ram' and 'Jai Hanuman' again and again. We were not allowed to meet him at the hospital. We have the video of the incident. I demand the culprits be arrested." "We want action against the police personnel who were on duty at that time," another relative told ANI.

The security loophole was being exploited to attack cryptocurrency organisations including Coinbase, ZDNet reports. Raipur (Chhattisgarh), Jun 24 (ANI): Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel inaugurated the Shankar Nagar Railway Overbridge in Raipur. The overbridge is constructed over the Raipur-Visakhapatnam Railway line and will link Shankar Nagar locality of Raipur to Baloda main road. The overbridge will reduce the traffic congestion, and according to CM Baghel, it will benefit at least two lakh people.
Tamulpur (Assam), Jun 24 (ANI): Heavy rains in Bhutan have pounded several parts of Baksa's Tamulpur in Assam, where rise in water levels of Pagladia and Borolia rivers led to the washing away of a bridge which connected Tamulpur to Baksa District Headquarters. The situation has prompted the local villagers to either take up swimming or use bamboo or banana rafts to cross the water. Several villages on the banks of Pagladia and Borolia rivers are reeling under water. Heavy torrential rains in Bhutan have led to flooding in Pagladia and Borolia rivers.
Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh), Jun 24 (ANI): A 50-year-old lawyer was shot dead by bike-borne unidentified assailants near a railway crossing in Prayagraj district of Uttar Pradesh. Sushil Patel was immediately rushed to a hospital where he was declared brought dead. Speaking on the possible reasons for Patel's murder, Prayagraj SSP Atul Sharma told ANI, "There are many reasons coming as he (Patel) had started a property dealing business, and people are even talking of old enmity. We will investigate the matter."

In their quest to find how antibiotic-resistance bacteria and their genes are transmitted from meat and plant-based foods, the researchers have found that plant-foods serve as vehicles for transmitting antibiotic resistance to the gut microbiome. Spread of antibiotic-resistant superbugs from plants to humans is different from outbreaks of diarrheal illnesses caused immediately after eating contaminated vegetables. Superbugs can asymptomatically hide in (or 'colonise') the intestines for months or even years, when they then escape the intestine and cause an infection, such as a urinary infection. The researchers developed a novel, lettuce-mouse model system that does not cause immediate illness to mimic the consumption of superbugs with plant-foods.
