Despite MHA guidelines, devotees flock to temple in Amritsar

Amritsar (Punjab), May 18 (ANI): People flocked at Mata Bhadrakali Mandir in Amritsar for 'darshan' of their deity, to mark beginning of a fair. The devotees are being allowed inside the temple wearing mask. Social distance was observed inside and outside of the temple premises. One of the priests said, "Had urged them to stay at home but they requested for 'darshan'. We are ensuring social distancing, two devotees coming at a time and going back soon". As per the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) guidelines for coronavirus lockdown religious congregations are strictly prohibited.

Uttarakhand govt tightens police surveillance at inter-state border check posts

Dehradun (Uttarakhand), May 18 (ANI): State govt has tightened the police surveillance at all inter-state border check posts in Uttarakhand. The step has been taken as a precautionary measure against coronavirus. At Aasarodi inter-state border check post, police was seen checking the vehicles and thermal screening was also being done in the area. Increased movement of migrant workers from outlying states is also one of the reasons behind police surveillance. The nationwide lockdown has been extended till May 31. Total number of positive cases in Uttarakhand has mounted to 99.

Watch: Artist Sudarsan Pattnaik creates sand art on cyclone Amphan

Puri (Odisha), May 18 (ANI): In a bid to create awareness among the masses, sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik created sand sculpture on cyclone Amphan. The sand art was made at a beach in Odisha's Puri. Pattnaik wrote a message 'Don't Panic Stay Safe'. IMD has issued a warning that cyclone Amphan will intensify into an extremely severe cyclonic storm in next few hours. People are advised to not venture into North Bay of Bengal.

Lockdown 4.0: People arrive to buy fruits, vegetables at Delhi's Ghazipur market

New Delhi, May 18 (ANI): People arrived at wholesale fruit and vegetable market in Ghazipur to make purchases amid the lockdown. The market reopened on May 16 after being shut for 2 days to undertake sanitization work in the area after secretary and deputy secretary of the market were tested COVID-19 positive. Netflix starts to bring streaming quality back to normal

New Delhi, May 18 (ANI): American media-services provider Netflix is now going back to normal streaming quality. According to Mashable, in March the streaming platform started reducing streaming quality in some markets, including Europe, India and Australia, with an idea to reduce Netflix's impact on internet speeds. As per FlatpanelsHD (via Android Central), users across Europe are once again getting 4K HDR video quality at up to 15 Mb/s of data transfer. This includes Denmark, Norway and Germany, though the outlet reports that restrictions still apply in some cases. However, over the last week, Denmark and Norway have seen broadband speeds improve, according to Speedtest, while Germany's speeds declined. Netflix confirmed to FlatpanelsHD that it's bringing video quality back up, saying it's "working with ISPs to help increase capacity." Vande Bharat Mission: 127 Indian nationals arrived from Bahrain, quarantined at School for Naval Airmen in Kochi

Kochi (Kerala), May 18 (ANI): The 127 Indian nationals who arrived at Cochin International Airport, from Bahrain by a special Gulf Air flight have been quarantined at a School for Naval Airmen (SFNA). The deportees were brought from airport by special KSRTC buses under the aegis of district administration and handed over to naval authorities at naval base, Kochi. As per the directives of Government of India, the deportees were to be initially quarantined in a Military base - at Kochi Naval Base, where they would be regularly monitored by trained naval health professionals. After the mandatory 14 days quarantine period, the deportees would be handed over to care of state agencies for their further transfer to their home stations. The Navy's quarantine facility at Kochi with a 200 bed capacity was set up on March 20 and has been serving as a transit quarantine camp for naval personnel returning to Kochi for duty after leave. Cyclone Amphan: 'Warning cage no 2' hoisted at Pamban Bridge in Rameswaram

Rameswaram (Tamil Nadu), May 18 (ANI): Pamban port authorities have hoisted 'cyclone warning cage no. 2' at Pamban Bridge in Rameswaram. It was hoisted in view of Very Severe Cyclonic Storm 'Amphan'. Migrant workers gather at Delhi-UP border to reach their homes amid COVID-19 lockdown

Delhi-UP Border, May 18 (ANI): Migrant workers including women and children gathered at Delhi-UP border in large numbers. Their aim was to reach their native places amid COVID-19 lockdown. They were seen wearing masks as precautionary measure during coronavirus pandemic. Police were deployed in the area to keep a check on situation. One of the migrant workers said, "Poor is facing majority of the problems. There is coronavirus, no food and no money and nowhere to go." Other one said, "I appeal to government to let us cross the border. They are not letting us go by foot. How will we go?" UP Government has ordered DMs to arrange buses for migrant workers who are found walking.

Shramik train all set to cover longest distance from Andhra Pradesh to Manipur

Study reveals antioxidant-rich Indo-Mediterranean diet significantly lowers pre-heart failure

New Delhi, May 18 (ANI): While Indo-Mediterranean diets are anti-inflammatory and considered good for a healthy heart, recently, cohort studies and case-control studies have demonstrated that western-style diets rich in sugar and lack of physical activity are important behavioural risk factors of heart failure. The study was published in The Open Inflammation Journal. Pre-heart failure may be defined as a state of myocardial dysfunction, which is at high risk for developing complete heart failure. It is similar to pre-diabetes or pre-hypertension for developing diabetes mellitus and hypertension, respectively. Pre-heart failure is characterised with changes in cardiac muscles that are known as remodelling which may help to keep the blood pumping, but the ventricular walls may eventually weaken and are not able to pump adequate blood to the circulatory system resulting into chronic heart failure. Cyclone Amphan: NDRF campaigns in WB's Sagar Island to create awareness among masses

Sagar Island (West Bengal), May 17 (ANI): National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on May 17 made preparations in West Bengal's Sagar Island as cyclone Amphan has intensified into a very severe cyclonic storm. The NDRF team is also doing awareness campaign for the public about the cyclone in the deployed area. The team equipped itself with cutting equipment of concrete, wood and iron. Each team is having boat with deep diving sets. According to the MeT department, Cyclone Amphan that has been circling over the Bay of Bengal for the last two days and will intensify into a severe cyclonic storm raising the possibility of heavy rainfall coupled with high velocity winds in several coastal districts of Odisha and parts of Gangetic West Bengal.

Dead body of leopard found in AP's Ananthapuramu

Ananthapuramu (Andhra Pradesh), May 17 (ANI): The dead body of a leopard was found at Kambadur village in Ananthapuramu district of Andhra Pradesh. Local people informed the forest department officials, who in turn recovered the body of leopard. According to the Ananthapuramu's District Forest Officer, Jagannath Singh, told ANI that the animal died 2 or 3 days ago. Body has been sent for post mortem and cause of death will be known after PM report only. However, the officer also confirmed that, it is not the case of murder or poacher's handiwork. It is a natural death, cause of which is yet to be ascertained, he said.
