Vande Bharat Mission: 241 Indian nationals arrive in Mumbai from Philippines

Mumbai, May 11 (ANI): An Air India flight carrying 241 Indian nationals from Philippines's Manila has arrived in Mumbai. This is the first flight from Philippines for repatriation of Indians in the wake of coronavirus lockdown. The repatriation of Indians from abroad is taking place under 'Vande Bharat Mission'.

'Shramik' special train carrying migrant workers leaves Delhi for Bihar

New Delhi, May 11 (ANI): A 'Shramik' special train carrying migrant workers left Delhi for Bihar on May 10. Railways has started running 'Shramik' special train form May 01amid coronavirus lockdown. "Total number of 375 'Shramik' special trains has dropped around 4.5 lakh migrant workers to their home state so far. Railways to run more 'Shramik' special trains for migrant workers in coming days," informed Chairman of Railway Board, Vinod Kumar Yadav. Thousands of migrant workers are stranded in different cities due to coronavirus lockdown.

Here are factors which influence youth to regularly use e-cigarettes

New Delhi, May 11 (ANI): In a bid to understand the growing use of e-cigarettes among youth, researchers have analysed the factors that influence adolescents to use it frequently. In the Public Health Nursing study of 1,556 adolescents in Korea, 55.1 per cent reported that they had used e-cigarettes for 6 to 30 days in the past month and 44.9 per cent used them from 1 to 5 days. The belief of e-cigarettes being less harmful than tobacco cigarettes is one of the major factors behind the growing use. The other reasons include the easy availability of e-cigarettes, and that they have various added flavours to it.Also, frequent users were more likely to have a higher weekly allowance, less likely to live with family, and more likely to be exposed to second-hand smoke at home. "Due to the characteristics of e-cigarettes, such as ease of purchase and the addition of taste and flavouring, the risk of continued use in adolescents is particularly high," said corresponding author Hyunmi Son, PhD

Social distancing norms failed during repatriation of migrant workers in Haryana

Ambala (Haryana), May 11 (ANI): The social distancing norms failed during repatriation of migrant workers in Haryana. Total number of 267 migrant workers was sent back to their home state, Uttar Pradesh by 7special buses from Haryana's Ambala. "Face masks and food items were provided to migrant workers for their journey," said an official. However, '2-gaj doori'- social distancing was not maintained here.According to the global health guidelines, social distancing is an important precautionary measure to contain coronavirus pandemic. Meanwhile, 70 migrant workers are still waiting for their turn to go back to their home state.

Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren provides rickshaw to rag picker

Ranchi (Jharkhand), May 11 (ANI): Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Hemant Soren provided a rickshaw, an assistance amount and mask to Rajkumar Ravidas, who was living a life of hardship. The Chief Minister said that the state government is sensitive towards the poor and needy. If any such crisis arises, immediate actions will be taken to provide assistance to them. The Chief Minister also encouraged him and said that this rickshaw will enable Ravidas to earn and support his family. Rajkumar Ravidas lives near St. Xavier's College in Ranchi. His rickshaw was stolen a few days ago. In such a situation, he was earning as a rag-picker and living a life of hardship. Also due to lockdown, he had no means of earning.

Labourers pelted stones at factory over salary issue in Rajasthan's Jhalawar

Jhalawar (Rajasthan), May 11 (ANI): The workers of Rajasthan Textile Mills staged protest outside the factory in Jhalawar. Labourers also pelted stones at the factory gate, vandalized CCTV cameras and lights including vehicles. Police reached at the site and controlled the situation. Jhalawar's Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Rajesh Yadav said, "There was some dispute between the management and labourers over salary payment. Labourers said that they were not given full salary".

Ludhiana textile companies hopeful of turnaround as operations resume amid lockdown

Ludhiana (Punjab), May 10 (ANI): After almost two-month break due to coronavirus lockdown, textile companies in Ludhiana resumed their operations even as threat of COVID-19 still looms large. Ludhiana Knitwear and Hosiery Association chairman Vinod Thapar said the textile industry has been hit hard by the coronavirus-induced lockdown, and even though the business is slowly taking off, it is still going through tough times. "The industry is going through tough times but we are making our best efforts to ensure that migrant workers don't go home," Thapar said.

COVID-19: Migrants at Muzaffarpur quarantine facility demand testing, proper sanitisation

Muzaffarpur (Bihar), May 10 (ANI): As many as 160 migrant workers staying at a quarantine facility in Muzaffarpur on Sunday protested and demanded COVID-19 testing and sanitisation in the facility, after three people tested positive for the deadly virus. He said, "If every (major) party agrees on unopposed elections to Maharashtra Legislative Council, BJP will also agree. BJP has fielded 4 candidates according to its strength. If unopposed elections are to happen, the CM would have to take the Congress along." Elections in the state are scheduled to be held on May 21.

Lucknow (UP), May 10 (ANI): While addressing the media on May 10, Additional Chief Secretary in UP's Home Department Awanish Awasthi informed that till now, about 215 trains have arrived in the state carrying 2 lakh 30 thousand people. "Today 57 trains connecting Lucknow from other states are coming. If we estimate each train is carrying 1200 people then over 70 thousand people are coming. So far, about 215 trains have arrived in the state carrying 2 lakh 30 thousand people," said Awasthi.
