New Delhi, May 20 (ANI): 150 GPS based ventilator beds from PM CARES Fund established at Sardar Patel COVID Care Centre, Chhatarpur in Delhi started functioning, in addition to 500 oxygen beds already functional here for providing critical care to COVID-19 patients, informed ITBP.

Imphal (Manipur), May 20 (ANI): In an unusual decision, Manipur Government has ordered for muting the ambulance sirens across the state to 'prevent' anxiety and nervousness amid second wave of COVID-19. The state medical directorate, in a notification, urged the chief medical officers, medical superintendents, employees of private hospitals, and ambulance operators to shut down the sirens as they are "intimidating people and causing social concern". "They are using the siren unnecessarily and untimely. When they are on the road, they simply use ambulance sirens whether they carry the patient or not. While carrying the patient if there is a block on the way, they can use the siren but otherwise, it is not necessary to sue especially during this hour," says K Rajo Singh, Director, Manipur Health Services.
New Delhi, May 20 (ANI): Head of Department of Medicine and Chairperson COVID-19 task force AIIMS Dr Naveet Wig informed that it is important to keep test positivity rate low as COVID changes its colours fast. "We've to keep our test positivity rate low and keep changing our strategies all the time. No one formula will take care of this virus. Public support and education is most important. COVID changes its colours very fast, it is dynamic," said Dr Naveet Wig.
Patna (Bihar), May 20 (ANI): Bihar Health Minister Mangal Pandey on May 20 said that nearly 50 black fungus cases have been reported in the state. Special wards have been made for the patients in Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) and AIMMS hospitals in Patna, said Pandey. "Vaccines for the black fungus have been provided to the district hospitals. There are arrangements of vaccines in private hospitals also," he added.

"We are making Black Fungus a notifiable disease under the Public Health Act. So now, we will know what all cases are there. Luckily, we have officially only 9 reported cases and all are stable. Now, we will also get the data from private hospitals," said Tamil Nadu Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan.

Mumbai, May 20 (ANI): Around 1,500 cases of mucormycosis (also called Black Fungus) have been reported in the Maharashtra, informed state Health Minister Rajesh Tope on May 19 while addressing a press conference in Mumbai. He also said the state is facing shortage of medicine that is used in the treatment of the patients infected with mucormycosis. "There're about 1,500 mucormycosis cases. We've decided to provide free treatment in hospitals under Jyotirao Phule Jan Arogya Yojana and to govt hospitals. State will provide them with Amphotericin B vials. Global tender has also been issued," Tope said.

New Delhi, May 18 (ANI): Niti Aayog Member (Health) Dr. VK Paul on May 18 said that the Phase 2-3 clinical trials of COVID-19 vaccine, Covaxin, which has been approved by the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI), for in the age group of 2 to 18 years will begin in the next 10-12 days. "COVAXIN has been approved by the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI), for Phase II/III clinical trials in the age group of 2 to 18 years. I have been told that trials will begin in the next 10-12 days," he said.

Mumbai, May 18 (ANI): Indian Navy rescued a person from Barge P305 that went adrift in the Arabian Sea near Mumbai in the midst of an approaching. The rescued crew member shared his horrific experience. He said, "I had never thought of witnessing a situation like this. I was thinking about my family more than my life. I got injured while jumping off the barge."
New Delhi, May 18 (ANI): Deputy Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral MS Pawar on May 12 said that four of Indian Navy's ships are on rescue and search operation day and night. "For the last 20 hours these units have been battling to search and rescue as many people as they can in the challenging weather conditions," he said. "This is one of the most challenging search and rescue ops I've seen in the last 4 decades. 4 INS are on site. Main ops pertain to searching and rescuing 261 people from Afcons Barge P305 which sank about 60km away from Mumbai yesterday,' he said.

He added that the weekly COVID-19 positivity rate have decreased and stands at 16.9 per cent.
