SMS services restored in Kashmir

Srinagar (JandK), Jan 01 (ANI): As the situation is returning towards normalcy across Kashmir, SMS services have been restored in the Kashmir Valley from midnight on December 31. All mobile networks and landline connections were suspended across Jammu and Kashmir on August 05, 2019 in the view of security concerns in the region following Centre's decision of abrogation of Article 370 that granted special status to the state. On October 14, postpaid mobile services were also restored. The Central government had abrogated Article 370 and also bifurcated the former State into Union Territories (UTs) of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. The new Union Territories came into being on October 31.

3 people found dead in car on Mathura highway

Mathura (Uttar Pradesh), Jan 01 (ANI): Three people were found dead in a car on Mathura highway on January 01. A pistol was also found in the car. Police investigation is underway. Police said, "A man's dead body was found in the front seat with a pistol. From the back seat, dead body of a woman and child has been recovered. Another child was injured who has been sent to the hospital. A suicide note was also retrieved from the spot."

Chandrayaan-2's orbiter is going to function for next 7 yrs to produce science data: ISRO Chief K Sivan

Bengaluru, Jan 01 (ANI): In an interaction with mediapersons, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chief K Sivan said that ISRO made good progress on Chandrayaan-2. K Sivan said, "We have made good progress on Chandrayaan-2, even though we could not land successfully, the orbiter is still functioning, and it's going to function for the next 7 years to produce science data. A lot of people are working on the 'Science Meet' for Chandrayaan data. In my view, we have completed and achieved what we promised in 2019."

Over-speeding truck kills 5 people including kids in WB's Bardhaman

Bardhaman (West Bengal), Jan 01 (ANI): An over-speeding truck entered a house in WB's Bardhaman leading to death of five people, including a woman and two children, of a family. Furious locals set fire to the truck and other vehicles and also beat the truck driver. Police reached to the spot and further investigation is underway.

Chandrayaan-3 approved by govt, project ongoing: ISRO Chief K Sivan

Bengaluru, Jan 01 (ANI): In an interaction with mediapersons, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chief K Sivan said that government has approved Chandrayaan-3. K Sivan said, "Government has approved Chandrayaan-3, the project is ongoing. Chandrayaan-3's configuration will be almost similar to Chandrayaan-2. The work is going very smoothly on Chandrayaan-3. This year is going to be year of Chandrayaan -3 and Gaganyaan."

Indian Railways hikes ticket prices, commuters give mixed reactions

New Delhi / Mumbai, Jan 01 (ANI): Indian Railways announced a hike in ticket price across its network and changes in ticket price can be seen from Jan 01. Indian Railways took the step to provide better services and amenities to its passengers. The Railway Ministry issued an order in which it said that while suburban fares remain unchanged, ordinary non-AC, non-suburban fares hiked by 1 paisa per km of journey. The last fare revision by Railways Ministry over Indian Railways was done in 2014-15. Speaking on the fare hike, one of the commuters said, "It is alright. If government wants to improve something in railways, such steps have to be taken. We also should cooperate with them. I am in support of it." While, the other commuter is not happy with the price hike and said, "Prices should not have been revised. It leads to trouble for public. Koregaon Bhima (Pune), Jan 01 (ANI): Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Ajit Pawar paid tribute to 'Jay Stambh' (victory pillar) on 202nd anniversary of Bhima Koregaon Battle in Pune on January 01. Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi president Prakash Ambedkar also reached Koregaon Bhima village. He said that security system is better this time. Violence broke out during the bicentenary celebrations of the Bhima Koregaon battle on January 1, 2018 in which one person was killed and several others were injured. In 1818, Bhima Koregaon Battle was fought between the British East India Company and the Peshwa faction of the Maratha Confederacy. Lakhs of people congregate every year to offer tributes.

Trains delayed due to low visibility in Northern Railway region

New Delhi, Jan 01 (ANI): The cold wave in Northern India continued to impact train schedules. 29 trains were running late due to low visibility in the Northern Railway region on the first day of the year. Several other trains were cancelled as well. On the other hand, all the flight operations were normal as announced by Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL). National capital recorded minimum temperature at 4.8 degree C on the New Year eve.
