Homeless move to night shelters as Delhi continues to freeze

New Delhi, Dec 20 (ANI): As temperature in the national capital is hovering on the lower levels, the homeless turned towards night shelters to cope with chilly winters of Delhi. The government-supported night shelters have become heaven for these homeless people. They are provided with free blankets and pillows in a night shelter near AIIMS metro station. Delhi has been continuously reeling under cold wave for the past week. Due to bad weather and cold waves the flight operations at Delhi airport are affected. While takeoffs and landings continue, on the other side some flights are impacted due to crew operational limitations.

RJD calls for Bihar 'bandh' on Dec 21 against 'unconstitutional CAA'

Patna (Bihar), Dec 20 (ANI): Calling Citizenship Amendment Act as unconstitutional, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav informed that a 'bandh' has been called in Bihar on December 21 against the new Citizenship Act. "We have called a 'bandh' in Bihar on December 21 against the Citizenship Amendment Act. The act is unconstitutional and against humanity," said Tejashwi Yadav.

Bengaluru DCP sings national anthem along with protesters at Town Hall

Bengaluru, Dec 20 (ANI): DCP of Bengaluru (Central) sang national anthem along with protesters present at the Town Hall in Bengaluru. Chetan Singh Rathore resorted to national anthem while protesters were refusing to vacate the place. Protesters left peacefully after the national anthem was sung.

Ghostery Midnight desktop app with VPN launched

New Delhi, Dec 20 (ANI): Ghostery has rolled out a desktop app with added privacy features including ad-blocker, tracker-blocker, and VPN. Called Ghostery Midnight, the app costs USD 14 per month and works across a variety of apps and browsers, The Verge notes. Users can choose to block ads and trackers on multiple browsers at once. It currently offers a choice of six servers for its VPN. Ghostery plans to roll out a cheaper version with limited features next year, and a mobile version later.

Pak woman receives Indian citizenship in Gujarat

Devbhumi Dwarka (Gujarat), Dec 20 (ANI): A Pakistani woman was granted Indian citizenship in Gujarat's Dwarka. Hasina Ben was born and brought up in Gujarat. In 1999 she married a Pakistani citizen and became a citizen of Pakistan. She applied for Indian citizenship after returning to India post her husband's death. Collector of district Devbhumi Dwarka, Dr Narendra Kumar Meena said, "She was born and bought up in Bhanvad Taluka of Gujarat. In 1999, she married a Pakistani citizen and became a citizen of Pakistan. After her husband's death, she returned to India and applied for Indian citizenship. After consideration, Govt of India and Gujarat govt granted her citizenship. She was given the certificate of citizenship on December 18."

Srinagar's Jamia Masjid re-opens for prayers

Srinagar (JandK), Dec 20 (ANI): The historic Jamia Masjid reopened on Wednesday for offering prayers after nearly four months of gap, since the abrogation of Article 370 in August earlier this year. The Centre had on August 05, scrapped Article 370 and bifurcate the erstwhile state into two Union Territories (UTs) - Jammu and Kashmir with legislature and Ladakh without one. Following which several restrictions were imposed in the area to maintain law and order and phone lines and internet were blocked in the region. The Mosque is located in Downtown which remains a central zone to the religious and political activities in Srinagar.

Martial arts teaching programme 'Penkaruthu' organised in Thiruvananthapuram

Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala), Dec 20 (ANI): Kerala State Youth Welfare Board organised a training programme 'Penkaruthu' in Thiruvananthapuram. The 10-day programme gives martial arts teaching to young girls. The programme is aimed to increase self-confidence among young girls and women. A participant said, "We never thought that this (training) will instil courage in us." About 600 girls were trained from Thiruvananthapuram in the programme.

Policemen suffer injuries during anti-CAA protests in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad (Gujarat), Dec 20 (ANI): Protesters pelted policemen with stones during demonstrations against Citizenship (Amendment) Act in Ahmedabad. Few protesters can be seen trying to repel the agitated demonstrators. Police personnel had come to disperse the protesters when an angry mob attacked them with stones, forcing them to take shelter in a shop. 19 policemen have sustained injury in the violence while 32 protesters have been detained.

Long working hours may lead to high blood pressure, says study

New Delhi, Dec 20 (ANI): Long working hours in the office can potentially trigger high blood pressure in overworked employees, according to a Canadian study published in American Heart Association's journal 'Hypertension'. This study was carried out by a group of Canadian medical researchers who closely analysed 3500 white-collar workers over a span of five years.

India-Russia bilateral tri-services exercise 'INDRA-2019' concludes

Pune (Maharashtra), Dec 20 (ANI): The second edition of bilateral tri-services exercise INDRA-2019 between India and Russia concluded on Thursday in Pune. As part of the validation exercise held on December 19, troops from both the countries carried out specialised joint counter-terrorist operations which were witnessed by dignitaries of services of both countries. The exercise included joint training in counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations under the United Nations mandate. Both countries shared their expertise and experience. The troops shared the best practices and expertise being followed by these nations in counter-terrorism operations. The exercise provided an opportunity for both the Armies for greater understanding and strengthening of mutual trust and cooperation.

Farhan Akhtar joins anti-CAA protest, says 'raising voice is a democratic right'

Mumbai, Dec 19 (ANI): Actor Farhan Akhtar joined protest against Citizenship (Amendment) Act at August Kranti Maidan and said that why people are concern if everything is okay. "To raise your voice against something is democratic right, people are raising their voices and I am of view that there seems to be a certain amount of discrimination in what is happening, by reading all this it seems there are possibilities if something wrong happening. If everything is okay they why are people concerned everywhere," said Farhan Akhtar.

India-Bangladesh relations can't be defined with postponement of a visit: MEA

New Delhi, Dec 19 (ANI): MEA Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar on Thursday said that India has excellent relationship with Bangladesh and the relations between the two countries can't be defined in terms of the postponement of a visit here and there. He said, "There have been comments about some of the meeting etc being postponed and cancelled with Bangladesh. We have to understand that, with Bangladesh, there are over 75 dialogue mechanisms which are taking place. Dates are decided through mutual consultation." "Our understanding is, a relationship which is as close as between our two countries should not be defined in terms of the postponement of a visit here and there. Bangladesh has explained the reasons why the visit has been postponed," he added.

Speaking on the matter, a police official said, "Situation is under control now. Mob had turned violent but force didn't lose their patience. Mob has been dispersed forcefully so that there is no loss of life or property. The force is now being moved to other location. 40-50 (people) arrested across the district."

Will seize assets of violent protestors to compensate for losses: CM Yogi on CAA protests

Lucknow (UP), Dec 19 (ANI): Speaking on violent protests in Lucknow over Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that his government will seize assets of protestors who are involved in violence, and will compensate through it for the damage done to public property. "I have called a meeting over this. You can't indulge in violence in name of protest. We will take strict action against such elements. Will seize property of those found guilty and compensate damage to public property," said CM Yogi.
